Wagner's save streak broken
On Comcast this a.m., they showed interviewing Wagner after giving up Burrell's 9th inning tying solo HR last night. I couldn't make out the initial question, but re: Burrell he said: "He has a one path swing and I threw it right in his path."

That's probably the best description of Burrell's swing that I've heard. -

Re: Wagner's save streak broken
Wagner's a jackass, but he's right about Burrell's swing. Wagner's problem last night was that the control on his slider was very poor. So after jumping up on Burrell 0-2, he threw three straight sliders out of the zone and Burrell laid off them because they were all inside instead of low and away - the pitch Burrell always swings over. Then Wagner grooved a 3-2 fastball and that was that. If Wagner had been able to locate a slider down and away, or even elevated a fastball, Burrell would have been toast. But he did neither of those things.Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

Re: Wagner's save streak broken
The most ironic thing about this is the main headline on Yahoo's MLB section profiles how the Mets' bullpen gives them the advantage over the Tigers this weekend, particularly the "wondrous Billy Wagner".
Now I'm in no way saying Wagner is horrible or isn't better than the Detroit closer...it's just funny that that's the main story one night after Wagner blows the save.Comment
