Real baseball question....How does Rick Helling...

only get a minor-league deal? This guy has a winning career record and was 10-12 last year with a 4.51 ERA for Arizona. Now, that's not setting the world on fire, but there are much less talented pitchers in the league than he that have long-term contracts for huge amounts of money. He's only 32 also. What am I missing here?

he is a home run machine. Also, not many FA are getting nice contracts this year.

Times have changed. Most of the owners have ALOT of their money tied up in the stock market , since 9/11 the market has been depressed as Im sure you are aware. The money that was there 2 years ago isnt there now. If you look at all the unsigned Free Agents you could easily make up a team that could beat the Rays at least:

There have a been a lot of 1 player deals. Next year we're pretty much going to go through the same ordeals with the same players.

I don't understand it myself....Helling is a 200 inning guy, he has a had a winning record in 4 of his last 6 seasons as a full time starter. My Texas Rangers have only had 2 guys that figured out how to pitch in Arlington, TX...Kenny Rogers and Rick Helling...We wanted neither. Amazing.

I agree. I was a huge fan of "Little Ricky Helling" when he was here in Texas. He does nothing but eat up innings and that could be valuable to a team that has a crappy bullpen. He does give up a lot of homers but it is ok considering that he usually gives up 3,4,5 runs an outing. I would love to see him back in a Rangers uni this spring.
