    The NL West

Didn't see a thread on this so I thought I'd start one.

As of right now, this is one of the best divisions in baseball with the Pads and D'backs tied for first with the Dodgers and Rockies a half game and 3 and a half back respectively. IMO this race will go all the way into September and as much as I hate to say it, I think the Padres will win it but I will always root for my D'backs.

Any thoughts on the division and who's going to win it?

    Dear old Nebraska U.
Where the girls are the fairest,
    The boys are the squarest,
Of any old school that I knew.
There is no place like Nebraska,
    Where they're all true blue.
    We'll all stick together,
    In all kinds of weather,
    For Dear old Nebraska U!

I thought about making this thread for a while, but answering your question, from top to bottom, the NL West is the best division in baseball. Of course, only two years seperate this from the days of the "NL Worst" a la 2005.

Whoever wins the division and the pennant will be the one who acquires a major bat at the trading deadline. With that said, I think San Diego wins the division, with LA taking the Wild Card. IMO, Arizona is a year away.

I agree that Arizona is a year away, especially with the starting pitching the way it is now. I do still hold hope that the D'backs might have a shot at the division or wild card if Randy Johnson regains health and pitches like he has in his last 5 starts or so.

The Giants didn't win the NL West in 2002.

                Oh snap!

                Edit: D-Backs still lost.

Wildcard teams from the West still lose too.

I've really liked the Rockies the whole year with that offense they've got, but I just don't think their pitching staff can get it done.

I'll say the Padres take the division just because their pitching is so dominant. They won't need to score that many runs to win ball games.

Forgot to mention that the loss of Jason Schmidt for the Dodgers will hurt their chances a bit.

Actually, an injured Jason Schmidt is exactly what the Dodgers need.

At this point, I think Billingsley is much more effective than Schmidt. Also, you need to keep in mind despite Schmidt's last outing against the Padres, the Padres have had his number.

The Dodgers may be better off without Schmidt at the moment, but I don't see them going anywhere if they make it to the postseason without him. This guy would much better off than Wolf and Penny imo. As seen last year, Penny dropped off the face of the earth and they decided not even to give him a shot at starting in the postseason

Today is a good indicator on why LA will have a hard time winning the division. How the hell do you strand the bases-loaded THREE times? You can't expect to go very far with poor situational hitting.

As I said before though, whoever adds a major bat at the trading deadline (LA, SD), will win the division and the pennant.
