Also add whoever's pitching holds up.

I think the Dodgers have the edge on that one. I think their depth is better than the Padres.

For awhile I had hopes that Arizona's pitching will hold up but it looks as if my hopes are failing me. Maybe I should just accept that we're a year away yet.

Chris Young's ERA is down to 2.08 after tonight and Peavy's is already a sub 2 ERA. Plus, Maddux has been pitching effectively and Boomer has been giving them some solid innings over his last couple of starts. I don't see anyone else winning that division.

As much as I hate to say it, you may be right. But on a side note isn't it nice to see the West as one of the best divisions in baseball?

Just to mention that the Dodgers beat the D'backs 8-1 tonite, so that really pissed me off.

I like the Rockies too. Their offense is young and ridiculously good, and once pitching prospects like Greg Reynolds and Ubaldo Jiminez are ML ready and join Francis in the rotation, watch out.

I don't think they'll win it this year but they might have a shot at it next year or the year after.

Oh yeah, how about tonight? 0-13 with RISP and 13 runners LOB. Of course, this coming immeadiately after the Tampa Bay debacle.

My apologies to Derek Lowe, who should have 10-11 wins this season if not for offensive ineptitude. This team sucks.

IIRC, the Dodgers lead the NL in runners LOB.

Bottom line, we need to trade for a Dye/Texiera at the trading deadline. I think it speaks volumes when Jeff Kent is batting cleanup.

They had 13 people LOB tonite.....they couldn't capitalize on Webb's mistakes at all.

Jeff Kent batting cleanup a few years ago wouldn't be a problem.

The problem is the Dodgers are relying on a few players past their prime (Garciaparra, Kent, Gonzalez) in the heart of the order. It doesn't help that their 3rd base situation has been terrible this year, with occasional-yet-inconsistent contributions from that position.

However, the Dodgers aren't the only ones with their share of offensive woes. The Giants pretty much live and die off Barry Bonds and the Padres suffer the most pronounce hot-cold streaks due to how heavy their lineup is with inconsistent hitters such as Khalil Greene, Mike Cameron, Marcus Giles, Jose Cruz Jr. and an unproven Kevin Kouzmanoff.

It's amazing that the other #1 teams in the league are barely outperforming the top-3 NL West teams.

If you think the Dodgers are bad with people on base, you must not have seen the Giants. We are the worst. Ask Matt Cain and his 3.38ERA. Surely he's got one of the best 2-9 records. Oh and his two wins only come from when he pitched a complete game and the ONE time where the Giants scored more than 3 runs for him.

Seriously. And I can't believe the Giants didn't put more bats around Bonds all these years. I hate these inconsistent hitters who can't do jack once Bonds gets walked. Cain must be real pissed.
