    Mike Hargrove resigns

I'm not a Hargrove fan and thought he should have been fired after last year, but he resigns now while the Mariners are on fire and very much in the AL West and wildcard race? He's saying his passion for the game is fading, which is kind of odd considering he's managing a very exciting young team.

Over the long run I think this will be a good thing for the M's and may help get Ichiro to re-sign with them, but I've got to wonder what's really going on.

Wow that's odd timing tho, looking at him you could see that the passion really wasn't there but sheesh couldn't he have resigned when things were looking bleak rather then when the team is on fire and on an 8 game win streak.

hopefully it's not health related... Grover seemed to be doing well this year with the team.

Something weird is going on with this resignation. I seen his resignation on film & towards the end he almost starts crying. This has to be health-related or something very fishy is happening in Seattle. I mean they are winning & in contention for sure. Maybe we'll see some real answers in the days to come. Thanks!

You don't expect a guy to resign when you're the hottest team in baseball, so it seems kinda fishy. Hopefully it's not a health issue.

That's what I'm thinking as well. Either his health or someone in his family. His wife is coming up on the M's pregame show in a couple minutes. It will be interesting what she has to say.

I'm not a big fan of Grover and agree the M's will be better off (although I've got to give him credit...his handling of the bullpen this year has been 100x better). Hopefully this means the end of the Vidro saga and the M's bring up Adam Jones. That would be 3 of the better outfield arms in baseball with Ichiro, Guillen, and Jones.

Talk about weird timing. I heard Bavasi say in press conference that Hargrove brought up resigning 2 weeks ago, but Bavasi told him to rethink his decision and he never changed his mind.

Just a very weird move all around considering the Mariners are probably the most surprising team in baseball and the hottest team in the past few weeks.

                  Re: Mike Hargrove resigns

According to his wife its the Seattle is too far away problem (haven't heard that one before :wink. All of their kids have moved out of the house and most are back in Ohio with their own families. They said they're ready to be grandparents and the baseball lifestyle doesn't allow that.

I still think health in some way has to do with this. I can't believe he couldn't wait three more months if its only wanting to be near his family.

                    Odd timing.

I was never a Hargrove fan, but the Mariners are red hot, and playing well above expectations this year, so you have to give him credit where its due.

I just hope this doesn't cause the Mariners to slump.

I bet this started when he went back for his daughter's graduation. The man is 58, he's been in baseball for 35 years, and he's likely got enough cash stashed away, so what the heck? Hopefully it's simply a man wanting to do something else with his life vs. something else.

That might be it. Hargrove has seemed fairly dispassionate, even with the team winning, so maybe he just isn't feeling it anymore like he says.

Kudos to the guy for being willing to put things in perspective. If he really wants to spend more time with his family, then I hope him all the best. Hopefully this is really what he wants though, and not his wife pushing for it.

With Hargrove leaving maybe we can get Adam Jones called up finally. Grover was too stuck on playing his veterans and there's no reason to have Vidro, a slow singles hitter with no pop or RBI production, as your DH. With Ibanez nursing a sore hamstring they should DH him and put Jones in LF.
