No, he didn't get in because the whole system is a joke. Just because he pitches for the Orioles doesn't make him any less of a pitcher. I hope you were joking when you let that stupid statement out, because if you believe that, that's ridiculous. He's clearly been one of the best pitchers in the AL, has been since last June.

The Orioles did get screwed. Bedard leads the major leagues in strikeouts and has a 3.36 ERA, but gets left off of the team for no apparent reason. I don't know how anyone can justify that, it's not his fault that our offense sucks and rarely gives him run support, taking away 4-5 wins from his record.
Seeing the players on the final vote makes me want to vomit. Halladay? Bonderman? Two relievers? No Cabrera?Last edited by snepp; 07-01-2007, 06:08 PM.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Im a Cubs fan and I didnt see Aramis Ramirez as a reserve player. He deserved it more than Derrek Lee.Comment

I'm sick of deserving players getting completely screwed over, and I'm also sick of people that think it's not a problem with the all-star selecting process. The fact that he gets screwed over yet again on the final vote makes it even worse. He's one of the best starters in the AL, has an ERA in the low 3's, has one of the best curveballs I have ever seen, and is on pace for nearly 250 strikeouts, but lets leave him off of the team AND the final vote ballot. Great idea.Comment

Re: Hello TBS, I want the All-Star show, not the braves game...
Cole Hamels - 9-4, 3.87 ERA, 1.22 WHIP - ALL-STAR.
John Smoltz - 9-4, 2.98 ERA, 1.22 WHIP - ALL-STAR.
John Maine - 9-4, 2.74 ERA, 1.15 WHIP - NOT AN ALL-STAR???
How did those 2 make the team and Maine doesnt??? More idiocy in baseball.
He should have made it over those 2, and Brian Fuentes...Comment

Fuentes has no business being on the team at all. Holliday had already made it.http://flotn.blogspot.com

Well you're probably right, but before this past horrible week for Fuentes that resulted him being removed from the closers role he was carrying a 1.89ERA with a WHIP below 1. I bet the fact that he was a lefty also played a roleI do because I can, I can because I want, I want because you say I can'tComment

Re: Hello TBS, I want the All-Star show, not the braves game...
Aramis is 2nd among 3B in HR and RBI and 3rd in AVG. in spite of missing time with injury.
Miguel Cabrera 17 HR (1), 50 RBI (1), .328 (2), 296 AB
Aramis Ramirez 15 HR (2), 45 RBI (2), .307 (3), 238 AB
Derek Lee 6 HR (15), 40 RBI (8), .340 (1), 285 AB
Their NL positional rank is in parenthesis. Plus in addition to being stronger relative to other players at his position, it seems like Aramis knocks in a higher percentage of guys in scoring position. Im not sure on that last one though.Comment

Re: Hello TBS, I want the All-Star show, not the braves game...
I think there were some bad choices on part of the NL. I would have chosen Byrnes over Rowand. Looks to be a tossup on preference, but the fact that Byrnes leading off or hitting in the middle of the lineup compared to Rowand having the most success near the bottom of the order. Byrnes also plays all 3 OF spots.
Byrnes: .315 13HR 46RBI 50R 15SB 104H and main component of new life Diamondbacks
Rowand: .313 11HR 41RBI 50R 5SB 93H
Another horrible pick was Freddy Sanchez being PIT's mandatory pick. Ian Snell was FAR more deserving than Sanchez. Hell, even Matt Capps was a better choice.
Sanchez: .305 1HR 28RBI 28R 0SB
Snell: 108.2IP 2.90ERA 88K 1.17WHIP .235 BAA
Capps: 45.1IP 2.58ERA 32K 7SV 1.04WHIP .233 BAA
I'd also probably give the nod to A. Ramirez, Rollins, H. Ramirez over Fuentes and D. Lee. Actually, I'd probably put Bengie Molina over McCann as well.I do because I can, I can because I want, I want because you say I can'tComment

I was surprised to see the list of players for the final vote contain all pitchers. I thought that the Twins would have 3 players but I thought Neshek would be one of them and either Hunter or Morneua would be left off.Last edited by bergie56; 07-01-2007, 07:40 PM.Comment

Re: Hello TBS, I want the All-Star show, not the braves game...
It is kind of ironic that you complain that the process is screwed up since your favorite pitcher isn't on the team and that two late relievers are on final vote list since typically the all-star roster is skewed towards having only starting pitchers and closers. It could be argued that late relievers are just as, if not more, importan to their team's success than a closer does and thus are just as deserving to be all-stars.Comment
