What's the point of disabled lists?
I've been reading reviews and I don't get what the point of disabled lists in games is. There was one PC game where the players would recover more quickly if they were on the DL. Also, if you sent someone to the minors, you couldn't bring them up for 10 days (which means you had to leave him on your major league roster, or lose him for 10 days)...that was a cool use of a DL system. Otherwise, just put someone on the inactive/minors list. If a player on the DL didn't count against a 40 man roster or something, you could put him on the DL and sign a replacement l...anyone see what I'm saying? For example: Ivan Rodriguez gets knocked out for seven days. If you put him on the disabled list, you lose him for 15. If you send him down, and call up a backup catcher, you get him back in seven. BUT if you had the ten day waiting period I described, you'd have a decision to make. Lose him for 10 days, or 15 days...send SOMEONE ELSE down (lose him for ten days), and call up a backup catcher, thus leaving I-Rod in the majors taking up a useless roster spot. OR send nobody down and hope your #2 catcher stays healthy for a week. But no other game has picked this up...I think it would add a very realistic dimension to player management. It just seems to easy to move an injured guy to the minors/inactive roster. Unless you did something like this, why even take up memory with a DL? It could be applied to something else. Nobody's gonna use it if you can just swap minor-leaguers at will. Agree? Disagree? Think I'm dumb? Anyone?

Re: What\'s the point of disabled lists?
Heres the point ok lets say you are playing and injury strikes so you either leave the injured player on ur roster and can't use him or put him on the d/l where you can then call up a player from the minors to fill in for his roster spot then once he is healthy send the guy back to the minors and activate ur guy from the d/l. -

I guess nobody cares...yeah, I know I'm dwelling on minutae, I just thought it would be cool to have some sort of restriction on minor leaguers movement, like is in the majors. Like options or something, I dunno.Comment

Re: What\'s the point of disabled lists?
But look, why even bother with the DL? Why not just send the injured player to the minors? Then you don't have to wait 15 days. Nothing in any game stops or discourages you from doing that as far as I know. If they made you either DL the player, or keep him, that would work, I guess. But why would you ever put a player on the DL instead of the minors?Comment

Re: What\'s the point of disabled lists?
I believe ASB has player options and waiver wires, so that shouldn't be a problem in this years game.
Here's a link to the rulebook in ASB

If the info in that link was correct, than maybe they fixed that loophole. But I do understand where you're coming from, and agree. There's no punishment for putting a guy in the minors for the duration of his injury (assuming it's shorter than 15 days). But in MLB, if a team tried that, the player would have to clear waivers. Most players would not clear waivers, and as a result, you would lose that player to another team.
Good job p00p. And possibly a good job to Acclaim if they fixed it.Comment
