According to BBall Tonight, it was Sean Marshall.

EDIT: Alright, BBall Tonight finally fixed it. Ravich apologized to the Marshall family... he should've apologized to the A's and Cubs fans for heart attacks!

I think this was a win-win for both clubs. The Cubs receive a vet behind the plate that has good relations with pitchers, although he's having his worst offensive year in his career. The A's allow their guy Suzuki to take over catching duties and you cannot doubt their history of bringing in great talent via trade

Yeah, E!SPN needs to get their information straight. I remember the Friday before the draft, E!SPN reported that Denver had traded up to the #10 pick. Needless to say, this was false. Now you have erroneous reports on baseball tonight even though it was made known by Len and Bob on WGN (WCIU) tonight. E!SPN is pathetic.

I think the Cubs could have done better to get a better C, but Kendall could still have some life left in him...

Thank goodness this wasn't for Marshall or it would be by far the worst trade of the year.

If it was the Jason Kendall of last year then this would be a big move. But he's just been really bad this year at the plate.

Kendall will be better than anything else we have, IMO. Bowen was striking out a lot and Hill isnt much defensively. Kendall will take a walk, can move a guy over, and is good defensively but doesnt have a great arm, which doesnt bother me. Also, Kendall is better after the break, and although he has sucked badly this year, I think he'll turn it around for us.

I'd rather have a guy that can handle the staff and play some good D behind the dish and thats what I think we'll get out of him. To bad Jones didnt go to Oakland though...

Strange note. The Cubs' last 2 starting catchers were traded to them by Oakland. Michael Barrett first, now Kendall. I don't understand why the A's did this. Assuming they still have a 2nd half push left in them, they could still make the playoffs this year.

I thought it was so Suzuki could come up and play?

I don't think they do. They have not showed any signs of their normal second half surge, and I think they are getting ready to sell off some players. This clears room for Kurt Suzuki who actually looks pretty good. And even though we sent some cash with Kendall, we unloaded a huge, burdensome contract.

I have had one night to think about the move and the more I think about it the more I hate this move. Sometimes I just think Jim Hendry just makes moves for the sake of making them, without even thinking about how it will effect the makeup of the team. As a Knicks fan I know first hand what a bad GM can do to an organization and IMO Jim Hendry fits that description.

Looking at all the guys moves since he got here, he has done nothing but crippled the farm system and overpay every free agent he can get his hands on ( especially middle relievers). I hope when the new ownership comes in that Hendry is the first one that is shown the door.

Were the Ramirez and Lee deals not good? What about Barrett, Dempster, Izturis, etc?

Actually it clears the way for Piazza because when Mike comes off the DL he will start Catching again so the A's can keep Jack Cust in the lineup as the DH. There is also hope that maybe letting Piazza Catch again it might get his bat going.

Out here, It doesn't seem very likely that Piazza will be able to catch again. He has been ready to come back as a DH for a while now and his arm has been very slow coming around (throwing wise). He had a heart to heart with Billy Bean over the weekend and he is now making rehab starts in single A Stockton tonight.

It doesn't matter though. IMO we should trade Piazza for whatever value we can get for him.
