What is the appeal to WSB's gameplay?

Why is WSB defended so much? I played HH and ASB last year so I am asking out of curiosity and not antagonism. What about the gameplay made WSB fun to play? What hurt ASB IMO was loosing control of a fielder from time to time. Diving took an eternity and if you did field the ball after a dive if took till the All Star break to get back up. Here is a good one, with a runner on first and a single to center, the CPU would freeze the centerfielder until the ball reach him, throw the ball into secondbase with the runner rounding second base, the secondbase-men would catch the ball squat while the runner advances to third, finally throw the ball to third and just miss the getting the runner at third to here the crowd go ahhhh for the upteenth time. So I completely understand the complaints about ASB's gameplay but have yet to hear the concensus against WSB. So what about WSB made the gameplay "second to HH" as is stated consistently on these threads?

I don't think WSB's gameplay was better than HH's not even close IMO. The AI on WSB was bad, real bad last year, but there are sliders implemented, which means you can tune the game to your liking. And there are noted improvements to the gameplay this year, starting with the AI difficulty. WSB wasn't missing much last year, but from what I have read, they have fixed it up real good this year!

But I just hope that you don't need to adjust the sliders to put the computer at an advantage just to make games competitive at the highest difficulty level, like with NBA 2K3.

Did the CPU ever freeze the fielders or did the controls ever feel slugish?

No, the fielders never froze up, and the controls were very responsive. There was no jump button which was damn near unforgivable, but that has been added.

In last year's WSB, most sure double-play balls are not double-plays because the secondbasemen/shortstop are too slow with their throw to first. That's a pretty huge black mark, to me.
