When did Bonds start embracing the media?

I had ESPN on just now and Barry Bonds is giving a pretty extensive press conference. When did this change occur?

The last I checked, Bonds was pretty adamantly against the media, almost to the point of being stubborn and bitter. The press conference he just spoke at after being two away from breaking the record seemed very upbeat and positive.

I think it's nice to see, but I'm curious if this is a recent change in Barry or one that's been around for awhile now?

Recent change. I'm sure he knows now that he can't avoid the situation and media any longer. That, and this is most likely his last year. This will be his only time to make amends.

Its called a show, the guy has always had moments of kindness, problem is they are normally followed up by months of the exact opposite. He uses the media just like the media uses him, only difference is he curses the media for using him, the media doesnt curse him for being used. Bonds will break the record, he will answer some questions and then abruptly stop talking to the press and go back to cursing the media every chance he gets and acting as if they are beneath him, its unfortunate but thats the way he is and nothing is going to change that.

I think it was around 2001 when he really started to adore his fans for adoring him, then it was about 2004 when him and the media got along pretty well. Then the steroid accusations came up and all went down the toilet again.

Its a roller coaster ride with Bonds and his relationship with the media. I'm sure his people have told him that he needs to embrace the media and fans with the record breaker coming up. They did the same thing before he hit free agency in 2001 or 2002. Bonds himself, along with those close to him have always said that he's a better hitter when he feels the world is against him, but his people are always concerned about his image when something big is coming up.

It goes back to how his dad was treated by the media, but he has always been cool guy though.

Who? Barry? I really hope thats not what you meant, unless you know the guy personally and can talk about how great he treated you, there are far more stories out there from people who did deal directly with him and they would say otherwise. At this point Bonds is seeing the future prospects of not making the hall even if he holds the record and is trying to portray himself to gain acceptance from the media and the future voters that will decide his fate in regards to the HOF. He will make it for the same reasons that McGwire will make it, but it may take a couple tries, especially depending on how much more information comes out in respects to steroids and HGH.

Bonds has always had his moments of kindness and generosity but for the most part he's a bum. Lest we forget that just a couple weeks ago Bonds told Pedro Gomez to F off.

I also saw an interesting report about how Bonds conducts himself. He's the only guy who doesn't have media scrums and so most of his interaction has to be in a formal press conference format. I'm sure some of that gets to his teamates but hey that's life with Bonds.

Who wouldn't? I have been scared that something was going on behind the scenes with that guy and Bonds where Pedro was actually coming out on top!
