This last consideration may not bother many, but Salty has an unusual family situation. Salty, now 21, married a teacher at his high school in West Palm Beach, Fla., who is now 37, according to records. His wife Ashley, who recently gave birth to their second child, insisted to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that their personal relationship didn't begin until the fall of 2004, when Salty was 18.

If Tex can actually hit worth a damn away from Texas then this is a great deal for the Braves. I've liked what i've seen from Salty tho. Too bad he's likely to eat up Gerald Laird's playing time. He's a catcher who I really like and wish the Jays had tried to acquire in the offseason.

No Texas fan will miss Laird. Has to be one of the worst catchers in the league at calling a game which makes matters worse when you already have bad pitchers. His ability to hit 20 homers a year doesn't have a whole lotta value in Arlington where just about anybody who play 140 games can do.

I've read that the Rangers are trying to trade Laird, so if that happens playing time won't be a problem.

I'll miss Salty, but truth be told he had no future in ATL as a C. He might have turned into a decent 1B but that's taking a chance. Teixiera plays great defense at 1st and can rake. I'm pumped. I can't remember the last time the Braves had someone with this kind of talent at 1B.

I thought about them, but they aren't the same caliber of player like Teixiera, IMO. I know he played in Texas but didn't he drive in 150 a couple years ago.

144 in '05 but I still think McGriff is better then him as he's a borderline HOFer. Tex has issues with his home/road splits which McGriff never had.

Agreed, as of this point the Crime Dog was a better player than Texiera currently is.

The Crime Dog was a huge deadline pickup for the Braves. Some forget too quickly or simply aren't old enough to remember I guess.

Fred McGriff was the model of consistency, pencil him in for 30 HR's every year when that number was good for a top 10 finish usually.
