Do you realize how OVER the season is?

Every team in the majors can thank the Blue Jays for sparking a fire under the Yanks that will not cease until they get the World Series trophy in late October.

These types of occurrences put a drive behind a team (Yanks) and spells trouble for the rest of the league who stands in their way.

Nice winning streak going... Rocket pitches 7 shutout innings... I don't think there is much the rest of the league is going to be able to do against this club now. It's over IMO.

I haven't been watching Baseball tonight or actually seeing what's been going on around the league besides the Giants. Are the Yanks on some sort of winning streak? Or did the Blue Jays start a bench clearing brawl?

You had a 50/50 shot, Bonds or Yanks.

Counting chickens before they hatch perhaps? There's Boston, Detroit, LA, Seattle and Cleveland out there still playing.

While the Yanks are playing great since the break, lets not get ahead of ourselves. The series against the Indians and then the two with Detroit will tell what is really going to happen with the club. Rocket pitched well tonight, but he had one of his worst outings ever his last start. Pettite finally remembered how to win back to back games yet he is also a huge concern. If the pitching does not get to a consistently solid rate, all of this will be for not.

Yankees have been playing well for awhile, they don't need something to spark a fire.

I'm feeling good about the team, but they need to continue to play well for the rest of the month, this weekend is the start of a very tough stretch.

If at the end of August we are in the lead for the wildcard we are in very good shape.

The Yankees are finally hitting as they projected. Abreu, Cano and Cabrera have especially been hot the last month. What a luxury to have someone like Cabrera to bat #9 or leadoff.. I mean wow. Giambi is returning so I don't know if that's actually a good thing for what they've got going at the moment. I also saw some highlights on Joba Chamberlain.. nasty stuff. Maybe he can be the second coming of what K-Rod did in 2002.

Matsui's been scorching as well. I remember at one point not too long ago he had like 5 or 6 home runs, and all of a sudden he has 22. He was easily their best player last month. It pains me to be praising a Yankee player, but he deserves some props.

The next two weeks will tell everything we need to know about the Yanks - their schedule is brutal.

                    @ Cleveland
                    vs. Baltimore
                    vs. Detroit
                    @ Anaheim
                    @ Detroit
                    vs Boston

The Yanks could be anywhere from out of playoff contention to leading the AL East by the end of that stretch.

yes very brutal... but nothing better than what happened last night. So much hate and anger towards A-Rod and the Yanks, and they capsized the Blue Jays 9-2 despite all of it. With all the momentum they've got, this only adds fuel to the flame.

I still laugh when people take things as guaranteed in baseball.

Remember that whole 3-0 lead in the playoffs a few years ago against Boston?

Nothing is set in stone, dude. Sure, they may have a flame under their asses now, but things can change in a hurry.

Just for fun, the Red Sox play during that stretch:

                            @ Baltimore
                            vs TB
                            vs Anaheim
                            @ TB
                            @ Chicago
                            @ NY

The Red Sox have a pretty easy schedule the rest of the way, other than Anaheim and the 2 Yankees series. The rest is mostly TB, Toronto and Baltimore.

Man, using that logic I could argue that the Yanks were once under .500 heading into the break and no where close to playoff contention.

It was thought to be a guarentee that they wouldn't even be this close (1/2 game out of the Wild Card).

Like you said. Nothing is set in stone. Not even a Yankee collapse.
