What a difference a month makes! - Operation Sports Forums

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you all know OS now has an official Discord that you can join right now. We’ve kicked around Discords for individual games in the past, but it felt like the right time to make it more of an official thing.

Steve and I have wanted to get this going for a bit because we obviously still hear from y’all who are unhappy with some stuff on the forums, plus when there are forum outages we still want to have a place for everyone to hang. My overarching goal for the longer term is to have both Discord and the forums ultimately work together. There are some logistical issues with the vBulletin forums that don’t allow things to sync right with Discord so there will be a little maneuvering as we try to get mods and forum members any proper roles/tags they need on the Discord, but we can work through that stuff easily enough as people join.

Our general goal is to give people more options to interact with OS community members, whether that’s Discord, the forums, this newsletter, or improved apps. If people want to stick more to the forums, that’s cool. If people want to stick more to the Discord, that’s also cool. In my perfect world, we do a lot of BSing and day-to-day chatting on the Discord about games and sports, and then more of the “in-depth” discussions or hefty things like long slider breakdowns or analysis of gameplay end up on the forums so that can act as a sort of “best of” area for anything OS community related. That said, you all will ultimately shape how the ecosystem shakes out, I just want to give you spaces you like so you can have a good time with other folks in the community.

The same general rules will apply on the Discord as they do on the forums, and we’ve brought most of the forum categories to the Discord as well so there should not be too much confusion as you navigate around.

With the Operation Sports and Discord announcement now out there, it’s also worth mentioning our OS premium newsletter, which quietly launched a couple of weeks ago. Built off the Not Just Another Roster Update newsletter, it offers a mix of retrospectives, guides, interviews and deeper dives into the sports gaming world—covering both current and classic titles.

With a team that is hilariously out of it (the A's - god they suck right now). I am still excited to watch baseball because of teams like the D-backs and Mariners. This is setting up to be one great finish to the season.

Well I never said the NL Central or NL East was better. In fact, I think all of the NL is pretty awful. Whether one division is better than another is irrelevant, because they all equally suck in my eyes.

Pretty much agree. Still though, the a team in the NL can win the WS, just look at last year.

Yep, because the American League is so superior because they win meaningless interleague games. I guess we should give the World Series trophy to the winner of the ALCS right. Because they were so superior last year too.

Its all about getting hot at the right time. Once the playoffs start, regular season records don't mean anything. Just because the NL doesn't have as many teams with great records, doesn't mean they can't win it all.

That's certainly true, but it doesn't change the fact that the AL is vastly superior to the NL.

I swear we had this same argument last year. I don't see how anyone could argue that the AL is better than the NL. It's very clear.

Why can't people understand when people say AL is better than NL, it's simply talking about the 162 game season. The postseason itself is a totally different beast.

At what, All-Star and Interleague games? I'll agree, the AL does have more teams with better overall records, or seem to be superior on paper. However, I fail to see how that determines if one league is superior to another.

I think the AL and NL games are managed, and played very differently. The DH has changed the way the game is played in the AL.

Whatever, I guess the AL is far superior than the NL, I don't really care. All I care about, as I would think most owners would agree, is who wins the World Series.

yes the AL is better cause they use that DH garbage, & also - somehow they allow TB & KC in that league (j/k)

Seriously, AL has 9 solid hitters in a lineup.. NL about 8... that to me makes a huge difference.. Pitcher is not an "automatic out" in the AL, therefore more offense is generated - so naturally people say the AL is better.

I do prefer NL baseball, but it is no secret that the AL teams are better. That doesn't mean the WS winner will come from the AL, even if they have HFA every year.
