Rajai Davis... catch of the year!

    EDIT: Link

Everyone watch Baseball Tonight or Sportscenter when you watch the Web Gems/Top Plays. I may just be a Giants homer, but this was such amazing range! Normally, when watching a baseball game live or on TV, when you see a fly ball, half of seeing the ball is seeing how the defenders are reacting to the ball—to see if it's a home run, if it will drop, etc. Well, in this case, you watch the ball, and you watch Davis, and you would say that he has no chance of catching this.

Ladies and gentlemen (probably just gentlemen), I can say with certainty that Davis is the Giants' new spark plug, and I could not be any happier to see the trade that they made for Morris.

I'll post a video as soon as one is up on the Internet, but the only description I can give was he Superman'd from center to left-center on a deep fly ball. And ever since that catch, the Giants have scored 10 runs in two innings, when before that they only scored 1 run in like... 20 innings. Fire under the butt, perhaps?

He made a great catch tonight. I'm a little surprised at what he's doing as he's never been a very good prospect according to most publications. He can run fast and is an excellent CF'er, but the rest of his game has always been weak. Glad to see he's doing good in SF though as he seems like a heck of a good guy.

Saw the replay. Wow. And lol @ him saying it was only in his top 3. As a non-Giants fan that sorta follows them. I'm liking what I've seen outta Rajai Davis so far. I hope he factors into the starting lineup next year.

isn't this the player the Giants got for Matt Morris?

How unbelievably bad was that trade for the Pirates? Yeah, an aging pitcher and his entire salary for a young outfielder with loads of speed, a nice glove and an adequate bat. Way to go, Buccos.

Davis isn't much of a prospect (not even in the Pirates top 10 which is pretty bad). Let's see how he does with a larger sample size.

The only reason I think the trade was bad was that the Pirates agreed to pay all of Morris' salary when no other team in MLB would do the same. That's bad. Giving up Rajai Davis? Not so much.

Again, it wasn't as much of the dive as it was how impossible this play looked. I mean, the catch was also great because that triangle out there is unpredictable, and he could have very well went straight into a fence. He didn't even dive on the grass, he was on the warning track! He was saying to himself that he was going to catch this no matter what with no regard for his own body, and if you're able to watch a video of high enough quality where you can actually see the ball, no matter how many times you watch the replay, you will always be saying to yourself when the ball is at its peak "There is no way in hell anybody could catch that ball."

oh I agree. picking up Morris' entire contract alone makes the deal worth it. If Davis can simply continue to run well and play defense, that's just icing on the cake for the Giants.

I don't know I thought he had a decent chance at it. It was a nice catch and definately showed that hes got range but calling it the best catch of the year is a little extreme to me.

Right now in the Bay Area, he looks like a super prospect simply for the fact that he's playing on the Giants, and actually moving. (Horribly masked joke at Barry Bonds).
