    Put a fork in them....

The Phillies, IMO, are done. They held on for as long as they could with smoke and mirrors with all these injuries but I could see it coming when they lost 2 of 3 against the Pirates.

I am so fed up with this team. It's the same thing ever year. Stay close, but not good enough to really do anything. This year you could blame it on injuries but other teams have problems too.

It's so hard for me to stay optimistic with this team even for the future. I am so tired of them doing this same thing every year.

    Geesh.

Re: Put a fork in them....

The Phillies have been battered by injuries this season and that certainly has not helped.

The players that have been on the DL at one time or another this season:
    Cole Hamels
    Chase Utley
    Freddy Garcia
    Brett Myers
    Shane Victorino
    Adam Eaton
    Tom Gordon
    Jon Lieber
    Ryan Howard
    Michael Bourn
    Rod Barajas
    Ryan Madson

However, if they Phillies had been able to stay healthy i wonder if they would have been able to really contend or would they still be where they are and we would be having the annual fire Charlie Manuel conversation.

Don't get me wrong, i know injuries have killed them. When your oldest starter is the only one still pitching, and the #5 at that you are not in good shape.

That being said, as a Phillies fan, it's the same thing every year. This year it's injuries, last year it was they were too young, the year before it was something else.

It just sucks. The Phillies haven't made the playoffs since 1993. And before that it was '83. No wonder they were the first team to 10,000 losses.

It's just really hard to keep rooting for them when you know there gonna let it slip right through there fingertips.

I wouldn't stick a fork into them just yet unless they end up dropping the next two games against the Padres. It's late August and they are only three games back of a playoff spot.

With most teams I'd agree with you but we are talking about the Phillies. They could win this series against the Padres then sweep there next series and I still wouldn't believe it until they make the playoffs.

Too many years of saying, yeah they have a chance and then they are a game out, or 2 games out. It gets old after a while.

Believe me, I want to see them win and make the playoffs they just aren't good enough, yet again.

Nah.. dont count the Phils out.. the way the Mets have been playing "streaky ball" this year, it will be a fight to the finish..

The Mets are the least of their concerns.

I was hanging out near Philadelphia with some friends back in July. The level of negativity and skepticism regarding the Phillies amongst these guys, and also Philadelphians in general, was off the charts. This town needs a world championship really badly. The negativity reminded me of Boston pre-2001 Patriots.

The way the teams play breed the negativity. The Eagles consistently win. Every year i feel like they have a chance and are going to be good because there consistent.

The Phillies consistently falter in the clutch, year after year, hence the reason I feel that way.

THe sixers just aren't good enoguh.

So I am not totally negative. Just when it comes to the Phillies.

                        I agree.

Phillies give up 10 runs like it's going out of style.

The Phils aren't done yet. There's still plenty of baseball left to play so anything can happen.

you guys are in a similar position, it seems, to the O's and Blue Jays....they may put together good teams, but to win their division they will have to have a stellar year where it all comes together in order to beat the Yanks and or BoSox....

For you guys, you have the Mets, until they fall into one of their several-years-long slumps and the seemingly indominatable Braves...and a Florida team with good players...

                            tough division...

I'm about ready to stick a fork in Atlanta if we don't go on a 5-2, 6-1 run in the next seven games.
