    Hey FatPitcher....

Did you guys tone down the amount of acrobatic infield catches every mediocre player makes or can Mo Vaugn still make diving stops like Don Mattingly? Also does the cpu use any setup logic now when it pitches against you or does it still just do "eeeny meeeny miny mo, I think I'll throw this one over here"

And last question, can you still have a starter go about 14-17 innings effectively before it starts to tire or does this year require you to utilize your bullpen?

    thanks

    Re: Hey FatPitcher....

Might answer somewhat: From WSBB Interview....

Operation Sports: Will there be more errors this year?

David Perkinson: Yes. There will be more errors this year, there will be a variety of different errors that we haven’t had in the game before, and, as is always our goal, the user will have the ability to tune the amount of errors to their own liking. One of the gameplay options that the user has at their disposal is to set the error option to few, normal, many, or off. If you are tired of watching your guys butcher grounders or throw balls away, set the option to off. If you’re sadistic, set it to many. It’s all up to you.

Operation Sports: Fielders playing out of position, has this been improved?

David Perkinson: Yes. Each player in the game has a skill rating for every position that determines how well or poorly they play at any given spot. This serves the purpose of not only making players play poorly and be more likely to make errors when played at positions they are not familiar with (imagine Mike Piazza playing short), but it also allows us to have real utility players. Guys like Eli Marrero and Mark McLemore are valuable to you in the game because of their ability to play well practically anywhere on the diamond

Yeah, what Skyboxer said, plus we have a new rating (well, not new, but was unused last year) called "Jump/Dive" that measures a player's ability to make acrobatic plays. Players with higher ratings will have a better chance of catching the ball, while players with lower ratings may have it bounce off their arm or head or glove or other appendages/parts of the body. It's part skill in lining your guy up at the right time and part ratings--you can still make good plays with bad fielders, it's just more difficult and less likely.

Pitcher stamina has been tweaked; it seems pretty good to me.

One feature that's new this year that hasn't been mentioned elsewhere (because it's something that's not noticeable to most people) is the addition of AI profiles for pitchers and batters. There are custom and generic profiles that determine what patterns pitchers favor and how they respond to different situations. For example, Roy Oswalt likes to work fastballs back and forth in the lower part of the zone, but will throw fastballs up and curves in the dirt when the situation calls for a strikeout. Randy Johnson will try to blow you away most of the time, but will mix in sinkers more often when he wants a double play. Tim Wakefield most of the time just lobs the ball in the vicinity of the strike zone and hopes it doesn't get smacked. In general, pitchers are more crafty in how they use patterns (slow/fast, up/down, inside/outside) and change strategies based on situation and count. For batters, the profiles determine what kind of pitches the batter looks for, when, and how aggressive he is. There are some neat factoids taken into account, such as Jason Kendall only swinging at the first pitch about 10% of the time (though he's more than willing make you pay if you try to pipe one every time). It's not the end-all be-all of AI, but it's a pretty significant upgrade.

Now Fat, this is too cool...you may have just got yourself an extra customer!....thanks. It's details like that make baseball BASEBALL!

Did you tone down the crazy on the run scoop up a grounder and throw in stride highlight real plays a bit and add more just regular plain infield fielding for the mediocre players this year?....And have you added offline throws that occasionally require a fielder to come of the bag or plate to field a poorly thrown ball?

            thanks!

No to the first one. We tried something of the sort and ended up messing up the game looks and balance (fielders would often be too slow to make routine plays, awkward-looking animations). It's a little bit better, but I know it's not close to what you'd consider fixed. It's worst with the SS and not bad at all with the other IFs.

                Yes to offline throws.
