ESPN: "IS ARod a true Yankee now?"

Are you kidding me? really....are you?

    What an ignorant question.
All of these dorks on ESPN that continue to harp on this guy are sick.
What is more, they seem to believe that any team sport can be dictated by one player....even Michael Jordan can't tell you that with a straight face...

I hate the whole "True Yankee" thing.

To me it's an egotistical belief that stems from Yankee fans believing that they are the epitome of the baseball sports market.

If you want to make a definition for the term "True Yankee", in my opinion, it's one that was raised in the New York farm system and brought into the league by the Yankees.

      So no, he isn't.

There haven't been any new Vick developments so BSPN needs something to talk about.

I agree. I get a kick out of hearing some Yanks fans talk about the true Yankee thing. Dont get me wrong, I love the Yankee mystique, but the true Yankee thing is rediculous. If you wear the uniform, your a "true" Yankee. If not, well, your not.

Well, I do think there are players that are unquestionably thought of as members of that team, even if they've played for other teams in the past. Frank Thomas is a White Sock. Mike Piazza is a Met. Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux are Braves.

I think that's all the title "true yankee" means, but for some reason it gets talked about a lot more. Don't know about A-Rod yet, if he stays here for a long time, he'll be remembered as a Yankee. If he leaves after this year, then he probably won't.

I hate the "True Yankee" thing so much.

Like last year after A-Rod sturggled against Detroit I heard some Yankee fans saying they would rather have Scott Brosius because he was a true Yankee.

Also Jets I think most Yankee fans associate "True Yankee" with success they have in a playoffs or a clutch hit in the playoffs. Like I remember when Giambi hit the 2 homers off Pedro in game 7 of the 2003 ALCS, Sterling said that Giambi had "finally earned his pinstripes" with those clutch homers.

That's the foolishness that gets me about this "True Yankee" nonsense.

Scott Brosius has one outstanding World Series and bat .300 the same season and he's a True Yankee though he did diddly squat the other years he played for them.

And then fans are going to say they rather have him instead of Alex Rodriguez? That's the sort of thing bandwagon riders say that are not true Yankee fans.

I can appreciate the fan that loves a player and says that "such and such" represented what made the Yankees so great in the late 90's but it doesn't have to go beyond that.

I like Brosius and will remember him because he was around when the Yanks weren't exactly a powerhouse of All-Stars at every position. He did his job as was expected (overall) and the Yanks won championships.

Wanting Brosius over ARod is the perfect analogy to fans that discount a player's career worth because he never won a championship.

Yeah, this whole "True Yankee" thing is so much bull.

As much as A-Rod isn't my favorite player, people just expect way too much out of him just because he is the highest paid player in the league, and most of those expectations are completely unrealistic. It seems that it wouldn't matter if he succeeded in the regular season or postseason or whatever, there will always be that group of people determined to pick him apart to shreds.

                      Yea, your right about that.

I guess I was posting more about how I like to think of the term and how I think it should be used, if it has to be used at all, than how it really is used.

Statistical success during a World Series which is won by the Yankees is the only think that will really put ARod into that "True Yankee" category. It may be patently absurd, but for a certain percentage of Yankee fans and the media thats just how it is.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Cosign with everyone on this "true yankee" crap. I've never heard them say that about any other player and I don't think they would say that about any other player BUT ARod. If Vlad signed with the Yankees and had the same success (or no success depending on how you look at it) people wouldn't be saying "Is Vlad a true Yankee?"

ESPN should just come out and say what they really want to say. "Is A-Rod a primadonna little b**** or not?"

They've done with every big free agent they've signed. It took Mussina and Giambi 2 years to become "True Yankees". So if Vlad did come to the Yankees people would be questioning if he was a true Yankee.

Well if thats true, based on the Yanks mentality of "What have you done for me lately" none of them should be labeled True Yankees.
