    Pirates fire GM Dave Littlefield

Not many details at this time, but this firing comes a few years too late.

must be a part of the Pirates master plan...

Well maybe they'll get someone that actually makes some good deals for them this time.

About damn time. That team needs a new ownership group and front office, fast.

I'm willing to give Nutting (the owner) a chance. For years, he was hands off, but now he's come out of hiding and is making major changes. They still need to do much more in the way of international scouting and player development, but perhaps with a new CEO, GM, and manager (I'm assuming Tracy will be gone as well) thing can be turned around sooner rather than later.

              HALLELUJAH!!!

Now let's see if the other rumor i've heard (Tracy being kicked to the curb) comes true and the Buccos can start anew. I'd like to see them try to find people from the team's past to help with the future but to my knowledge I can't really think of any past Pirates that could be GM material but I'd definitely look ling and hard at Andy Van Slyke as manager.

No clue. Bob Nutting (Owner) hasn't stated yet and wants a new CEO in place before naming a GM.

So CEO Kevin McClatchy stepped down earlier this year and will be replaced and GM Dave Littlefield was fired and will be replaced. I've heard more potential CEO rumors than I have GM.

Now Manager Jim Tracy and his staff need to be shown the door. Clean house and start it over.

Are any of the CEO names being mentioned baseball people? Just curious.

Yes, they are. Nutting has also stated that he will hire a baseball person to fill this position. Based on hearing him speak and other things he's said, I don't think Nutting has any clue about baseball. I think he might be a good businessman, but baseball person he is not. So he better hire a baseball minded CEO and then hopefully the CEO hires a savvy baseball minded GM.

Supposedly the Pirates are about to name Frank Coonelly the CEO. He's the current Chief Labor Lawyer for MLB. I don't know much about this guy, but have seen a few articles stating he'd be a good addition. Don't know...

                            a labor lawyer? "sigh"

Hmm I do wonder since this guy worked in the MLB offices if he could convince Bob Watson to get back into the GM role. I thought he did a very good job with the Yankees. He was not only good at picking up free agents but he was also no slouch when it came to the development side of things.

Here's an expanded article. I still don't know what to think of this guy, but it sounds like those within baseball think very highly of him.
