baffled why so many DONT understand :"swing late to hit to opp field"

NOt meaning this as a flog or to start a flame war here...but why do so many of u not understand (or not desire) the ability to control where ball goes (lf vs rf) on timing. ie: righty batter swings late on ball and hits it to RF.

This type of philosophy is in stark contrast to teh arcadish..non physics driven mechanism of swing late but push left and pull ball to rf.!

I have played HS,college, and AAA ball (for 3 months b/f torn labrum). TRUST me....i wanna pull ball you gotta hit right side of ball and cannot hit to lf if you swing late!

Parts I agree with. Swinging late as a righty will send the ball to right field. But swinging late/early usually means that the batter was fooled by the pitch.

What I think EA is trying to simulate is location of the pitched ball with how the batter swings. It is much easier to hit the ball to right field as a righty if the ball is pitched outside... not swinging late, but adjusting the swing to hit the ball to right field. Inside pitches will be pulled b/c the batter has to bring his hands in. So the batter that tries to pull the outside pitch will often ground out weakly to the SS. I still think that you can swing "early" or "late" in EA (I have no proof of this, but if it's a timing based hitting, then early and late HAS to be there) and pull the ball or hit it to the opposite field, but IN ADDITION to timing, EA will also force the player to know the location of the pitch and adjust accordingly.

I am a righty, and hit pretty much every pitch to the opposite field, its because of my swing mechanics, not my timing.

I am 1 5'9" 14 year old switch hitter for my high school baseball team. I am known mostly for my speed. I don't have much power left handed... but I know a thing or two about slap hitting that way.

You must always know that if you want to pull the ball, you need and outside-in swing (bat head out first) and you want to get it early. You want an inside-out swing (know first) for opposite field hits... wait on an outside pitch for doing this.

oh man this debate about hiting to the opposite field is geting out of hand. the bottom line is if you want to hit the ball to the opposite field there are many factors which must fall into place. first and foremost is the pitch location. if the pitch is on the outer half of the plate that is your best chance to go the other way, and you should anyway then the next factor is keeping your hips closed they should remain closed until the swing is complete and if all these factors fall into place you should have hit the ball to the opposite field. i have been playing baseball for 18 years and as high as the college level so im not just pulling this out of my a$$

I don't think there's any debate. Every post since the 1st is explaining that timing is NOT everything to hitting.

i started this post...and wanna clarify!

i AGREE that there ARE other factors...but i would love to see someon slap ball to RF (righty batter) swinging early on an inside offspeed pitch!
