Today I went to Circuit City and they had the game in there for some reason, but it only allowed you to play 3 innings with the Angels and Giants, in Anaheim. I took the Angels, and here's what I thought of those 3 innings:
Graphics: simply amazing. The player models are much better than last year, and the faces are a lot more realistic. The stadiums will blow you away, especially the crowd. There's no way that this won't be the prettiest baseball game this year.
Sound: It was a mixed bag. The baseball sounds (bat making contact, throws, hecklers, crowd, etc.) were amazing. It really made you feel like you're at the ballpark. However, the announcing didn't seem much improved over last year. I suppose it was a little better, but it still left much to be desired.
Gameplay: If you liked the batter/pitcher interface from last year, then you'll like this one. It's the same thing. You have to aim the cursor and time the swing. The pitch speeds were very realistic. I managed to strike out a few times. Also, I drew 3 walks. Last year I hardly ever walked, so this is a great improvement in my mind. On the pitching side, the behind the pitcher view is fantastic, definitely a big plus over the other baseball games. Last year I easily threw shutouts all the time, but this time I gave up 5 runs in three innings, on the normal difficulty level. Bonds took me deep in the first inning. There didn't seem to be a problem with the defensive A.I. from what I saw, but then again, I only played 3 innings.
