I vote dud...he was completely one-dimensional. Disruptive to pitchers, true, but he couldn't hit well and didn't draw walks. He also stunk in the outfield because he never could get a good jump and would use his speed to get under regular balls. With his speed, he should have had as much range as Torii Hunter if he put the time into it.

I vote stud for McGee on that Cardinals team.

And I vote big stud for the Rock Raines...only baseball player to be named for cocaine. But if there was no Rickey, we'd be talking about him redefining the leadoff batter.

I have to admit that i totally agree with everything that you said in this post. I think VInce didn't do enough to be considered a "stud". I did love Rock Raines though and McGee.

I too was a fan of Willie McGee, but I just have to say it, he was one ugly dude. Very good baseball player though.

First 6 years of his career he was a stud once he went to NYMets he wasn't much. He was down right scary on the bases early in his career. Ok on OBP early in his career.

Don't forget Oquendo. Clark was the only righty in the whole lineup. (with Van Slyke and LaValliere).

Grand total of 58 HRs in 1986, Van Slyke led the team with 13. Won't see a team like that again.

I forgot about Oquendo and Vanslyke. But they were a speed team for sure. Perfect ball park for that team too.
