Also if it weren't for the Wild Card i'd be proclaiming this as 1978 all over again for the Red Sox. They could actually choke away the division the way things are going right now.

What the hell happened to Eric Gagne?
I watched the end of the Jays game and the guy just can't convert in pressure situations any more. He got 2 quick outs then when things got tough for him he started walking guys and letting up big base hits.

Every pitcher who underwent Tommy John Surgey has to go trhough a reabilitation process...
He's doing his in a pressure-packed city in a pennant race.
he will bounce back...
Just not in Boston.
Do you guys think he's gonna be on the post season roster ?Comment

Re: What the hell happened to Eric Gagne?
Francona was on the radio earlier and he said that last night's game was Gagne's last chance to show he could be trusted in a high-leverage situation. He said they wanted to see if he could get the job done. I don't think you'll see Gagne in a situation like he was in last night unless the game is meaningless, like if they clinch. As for the post-season roster, I'm going to assume that he'll be one of the first names crossed off the list. I saw someone mention that he's still recovering from his TJ surgery, well, he looks like a different guy than even the version that was rather effective in Texas the first four months of the season. He's cooked for this year.Comment

Re: What the hell happened to Eric Gagne?
Where is this Gagne steroid rumor coming from? I've heard it before... but like others have said, he was doing well in Texas, I'm really surprised he couldn't get it done for Boston... I'm glad Cleveland was one of the teams on his no-trade clause!http://flotn.blogspot.com

Re: What the hell happened to Eric Gagne?
The steroid rumor comes from when he was with the Dodgers and he went from being a 89-91 mph rotation pitcher to a closer with a 97-98 mph fastball. Lots of guys throw a few mph harder when they're in the pen but he really became like a completely different pitcher. Of course, his best pitch was always his funky splitter thing and probably the biggest reason he's stunk so much with Boston has been that he hasn't had that pitch really to any capacity. Could I see him being a roids guy? Yes. Do I think he actually was? Eh, not really.Comment
