Re: Cooper and the Brewers...
As much as it pisses me off... he has every right to do whatever he "thinks" is best for their club. As far as I'm concerned, the Cubs need to win games, rather than hope the Brewers lose.Listen to some of my covers:

Re: Cooper and the Brewers...
1. Roy Oswalts wife was induced labor on the night he was suppose to pitch. I would think that is an excuse to see your child born.
2. I would think the Brewers would rather see Woody Williams with an ERA over 5.00, 34 HR's given up and 15 losses. The Brewers lead the league in HR's. The rookie pitcher pitching tonight had 5 k's in three innings. Not bad with for a rookie.
3. As the poster said above, I would think the Cub players should worry about themselves instead of worrying about the Brewers and their opponents. Heck, I'm sure the Brewers are happy to hear the Cubs are concerned with how they are playing.
4. Conspiracy theories developed by Cub players. Isn't the jinxes enough?Comment

Re: Cooper and the Brewers...
In all fairness, this wasn't started by Cub fans or players. Around the Horn and PTI both brought this up as a topic today on ESPN, so while that doesn't necessarily make it legit, it means that it isn't about sour grapes. Sounds like you're just instigating something here.
That's where my information came from, not trying to start anything or instigate anything. If it's true what Uecker stated, then I still stand on the ground that both teams should be focusing on themselves only, not looking over their shoulder and stressing themselves out.Comment

Re: Cooper and the Brewers...
It probably did start on Around the Horn and PTI , I didn't listen to it today. However, I was listening to the Brewer game tonight on the radio and Bob Uecker mentioned that some of the Cub players(he didn't mention any names) were discussing they didn't think it was fair bringing in rookie pitchers to pitch for the Astros to the Brewers. Uecker never once mentioned ESPN as a source.

I do like the fact that the Astro's manager called the Cubs to apologize and explain the situation. Whatever you may think about it, it is their team and they can pitch who they want.University of Oregon

Re: Cooper and the Brewers...
I hear ya, I just snipped this from the Chicago Sun Times. It's a good read. The Astros called the Cubs and let them know the reasoning behind the moves. It's just some player or players made comments about it.
DeRosa:
'I can't say I haven't looked and seen a guy named Paulino throwing [Tuesday] and not known who he was,'' Cubs second baseman Mark DeRosa said. ''That's no knock on him. It's just when you see Oswalt's name pop up, it gives you a little different feeling inside.
I'd say to DeRosa, yeah, but his wife's labor was induced.
At least Sweet Lou has the right attitude.
No wonder it was on Around the Horn and PTI, Marriotti writes for the Times.

Re: Cooper and the Brewers...
I watched the first couple games of the Brewers/Stros series and while he had rookies starting it wasn't as if he was giving away the games. Woody Williams offered to go in the pen because of his crappy performance all year and Oswalt couldn't pitch because his wife was in labor. The Astros tried gamely to keep it competitive in those games but the Brewers were just too good. You also have to remember that it's not like the Astros were putting in total scrubs in the starting lineup either.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
