Why doesn't MLB 2004 get any respect?

Over the past week or so I have been very addicted to the boards. I have read countless posts about all the baseball games for 2003 and very rarely see any respect for MLB 2004. Is it simple that they are forgotten because they didn't release a game last year? This game looks unreal in the videos I have seen. (No I don't work for 989 sports or for any other video game manufacturer for that matter). I'm just a baseball purist.
I have for years been waiting for a game to come out with plenty of real life stances and pitching motions. This game has nailed it perfect from what I see. They even have Ben Webers motion (the double clutch he does in his full windup) down to perfection. You can view it on this site. Weber pitches to Barry Bonds. Plus add the Percival high leg kick, Ichiro's stance and pre at bat ritual, Jason Schmidt, Kerry Wood, Kevin Brown & Matt Morris's motions down pat. I viewed all these clips on IGN. When I play a video game I want it to feel like I'm facing a real MLB player. The other games I have seen don't capture this. Well, MVP also does a good job from what I can see. WSB, ASB, & High Heat don't capture the realness of the players. Each pitcher for the most park all have the same windup. That is sooo boring. I'm excited to see Zito's high leg kick and nasty curve and Freddy Garcia's hop up motion. Makes it feel like I'm at bat vs. these MLB greats. In the interview that was done by OS with MLB 2004 it is said that MLB captured EVERYONES motion and batting stace. Now that is exciting and ground breaking in my mind. But to each his own I guess.
The other aspects of the game look great as well. Fielding looked really smooth with wall robbing HR catches, throwing on the run all is one smooth motion. There was a great clip of Giants 2B making a play to his right jumping up throwing against his momentum. He throws it high with J.T. Snow jumping making the grab and landing on the bag for an out. The game looks fantastic and I'm super pumped for this game and MVP.
Is anyone else not impressed with the 9 video clips on IGN? Now this could all just be eye candy who knows until the game is shipped and played. I just hope it isn't full of bugs or other glitches because as we have all witnessed one bug can ruin a whole video game (High Heat this year).
I haven't played 989 sports games in the past so maybe there is something I'm missing but from what I see this is the game that will sneak up as one of the years best.

No one knows much about the game, that's why it hasn't been talked about. And about it being a surprise game, i'm not sure about that unless you look at gameplay, but the franchise is one year while the career is ten years. It's still has a long way off before it reaches to the top, but it should get the crown by the rate they're improving the game at.

I was just looking at videos of MLB 2004 as well and I must say, it does look very good. The ball physics look good and so do the animations. Most likely I'll be renting it to see if it warrants a purchase or not.

989 has had a bad run of sports titles for some time now, hence the lack of enthusiasm for the title. I believe this will be coming out at the same time as WSB and MVP so until we get some info on the gameplay, this title will be looked at with some skepticism.

I think it's a combination of 989's bad rep and the fact that it's taken them way too long to get this series on PS2. That being said, im definitely getting it. The game has a lot of things i like in my baseball games: Multiple camera angles, lots of batting stances/pitching motions, Cursor w/ the option to turn it off if you want...........etc

This is what interests me about the game

Quote:

Fielding is a critical part of the game and MLB has always delivered impressive AI where diving catches, leaping grabs and throwing on the run were part of Total Control Fielding. Now, with Individual Player Positioning you can better defend pull and spray hitters while textbook Cut Offs & Relays will limit extra bases against your defense.

The clips i saw looked great, so i am looking forward to it. But 989's rep with real sportsgamers is pretty bad so they won't get much hype until they deliver something.

I respect it. I can't wait to try MLB 2004. I thought Gameday was an improvement and I think MLB will be good. Let's hope so. I'd like to see 989 get back on track.
