    Nyger Morgan: WOW!

So i've seen highlights of this kid that got called up to the Pirates awhile ago. This guy is amazing in the field. He made a spectacular catch today and the other neat thing about him? He also wears stirrups!

So is he all glove or does he wield a big stick too?

Looking at his minor league numbers at best Morgan projects out to be a defensive replacement/pinch runner.

Morgan seems to hit for a decent Batting Average (over .300 the past 2 seasons in the minors) and has great speed (190 SB's over 5 minor league seasons) but he has no power and has recorded only 29 extra-base hits the last 2 seasons.

          My thoughts exactly.

Seriously, he's got a great glove and great speed. He's the reason the Pirates had no problem parting with Rajai Davis. However, his bat needs to come along faster....either that or he needs to walk more to at least get his OBP up.

I saw a stat on SC that he was the first Pirate since 1980 to lead off two straight games with a triple.

            Can the kid bunt?

I know. He was just expendable due to Morgan. From the Pirates perspective, Morgan has more potential upside than Davis. Davis was never seen as anything more than a 4th/5th outfielder. Of course the Pirates projections aren't often accurate.

Yeah he suck hitting he needs to get the ball down and use his speed, it reminds me of the movie Major Leagues with Willie Mays Hays. If he can start hitting the ball down more he will get on base.

A 27 year old rookie with zero dingers and five XBH in 70 AB's. I'd say he's all leather.

Oh, and I checked just to be sure, his first name is spelled Nyjer. That makes a lil more sense.

Well I posted this at a late hour sheesh

But yeah I wouldn't mind having a sinkhole at CF if it means he vacuums every ball within 5 feet of him.

On a team like the Blue Jays that has about 5 or 6 solid run producers in their lineup you could sacrifice offense for a strong defensive player at one position. But on a team like the Pirates that has only 3 good run producers giving up another spot in the lineup to a player who can't really hit and does not get on base nearly as much as he could with the speed he has would basically be giving the Pirates a 7 man lineup.

Morgan has a great glove and tremendous speed but he is a 5th Outfielder.
