A-Rod: future part owner of the Cubs?

    New York Post article

    Pertinent paragraph:

According to the magazine, Boras is peddling a Second City deal that could go for an average of $30 million a year over 10 seasons, with much of that cash backloaded for the 32-year-old Rodriguez - who would then be given the right to buy a chunk of the Cubs at the contract's conclusion. The report does not indicate who would pay for this proposed, precedent-setting deal.
The magazine mentioned above is New York Magazine. Anyways pretty interesting stuff to say the least.

That would set an amazing precedent. I know that it has been done with GMs before (Billy Bean is a part owner of the A's after his latest contract), but a player? wow. I would expect to see this with a less traditional team. Maybe the D-rays or Diamondbacks would try something radical like that. IMO. Interesting to think about though.

LMAO, that would be insane. Can you imagine playing next to a guy who...partially owns the team? I'd think twice before slapping him in the shower with a wet towel or whatever these meatheads do to each other. You might be hitting the streets after doing that.

So is Boras admitting to negotiating on behalf of Rodriguez with other teams? If so, isn't that tampering?

Although ARod denied it, I wouldn't put it past him nor his agent.

          Wonderful timing.

Bud Selig is a complete moron if he doesn't do something about this.

It's definitely tampering but I would love to see it happen!!!

I could be wrong but I don't think you can own a team while you're still a player.

A-Rod would earn the share of the Cubbies after the contract expires. Also yes, it's tampering but I think there's truth to this story. This sounds like something that Borass would do.

I could see Boras doing something like this, or at least being involved in this. However, with the spending spree the Cubs went on this offseason, they will be a very expensive club for that ball park for the next few years. I just dont see how they commit another 30 mill per year to a single player.

The Tribune may have hurt themselves by spending the next owners money like they did. Dont get me wrong, I'd love to see it, but I doubt it will happen.

Not every owner is like the Tribune company. We play in a large market it city and make a crap load in merchandising money. If we get an owner in here that will actually spend some money on the team instead of holding it all for himself there is no reason we couldn't afford someone like A-Rod.

We might have gone on a big spending spree last season but we still have nowhere near the payroll of the New York teams or Boston.

I'm a member of the Red Sox Nation and would perfer to see A-Rod go to a team that could use him... now if the Red Sox would like too dump Manny and bring in A-Rod I'd go for that too.

Part Ownership.... that's a crazy deal. He set the precedent for largest contract for a sports athlete, why not set it for player becoming part owner...

Which would mean he couldn't go to another team.
