More likely to be fired at season's end?

I know it's a little soon with the Mets but I don't see them getting out of their mind numbingly bad streak right now. I mean when the SP tonight plunks 3 (or was it 4?) guys in an inning and INFs making mental errors (Wright not putting his foot on the 3B bag for the double play) then you know things are not right. As soon as the Marlins scored the first runs in the game you knew it was basically over. I know Minaya likes Randolph and all but someone's gotta pay the price if the Mets completely blow it and sit out the postseason.

On the other hand there's Ned Yost of the Milwaukee Brewers who in the last week has been to quote his own wife "going crazy". He is visibly showing the strain and now the Brewers are more or less dead. Now he's done a great job but this could be a situation where you fire a good manager because he's just one of those guys that's good at developing young talent but when it comes to going over the hump he just can't cut it. The Brewers need a steadying influence at the manager position but they're a team that's VERY close to playoff success in the next couple years. I just don't see Yost as the guy to the manager.

If I were to apply it to a situation i'm familiar with it's an awful lot like Bobby Mattick who managed the Jays for a couple seasons and even had them in contention for a while in '84. He was very good at developing the young talent but it was felt that the Jays needed a guy who's been around and could be a voice of authority rather then a teacher type and that guy was Bobby Cox.

No way Willie survives past Oct 3rd if the Mets fail to make it. Willie was the one Yankee I liked as a kid. But no way I could condone him coming back next year.

The funny thing is that if McLaren were in this poll before today he would win in a landslide.

I'm not sure why Yost is even in the polls. The owner of the Brewers said Yost is safe for next year.

Ned Yost. Time for a change in Milwaukee.

It won't happen. The Brewers president said this week Yost has a job in 2008 unless he goes back on his word.

Another year of him managing that bullpen.

If you guys really think Willie has any chance of being fired, you are sadly mistaken.

                    Agreed

I'd love for it to happen, but they won't do it. I think he's a horrendous manager who has led his team to one of the great collapses in MLB, arguably all of sports, history.

He's signed for 4.5 million through 09. The Wilpons probably want some stability going into the new park. 2 more years of carrying dead weight on the roster and relying on horribly ineffective players, yay! Go Willie!

Agreed, I'd rather get rid of him because of the bullpen managing and not playing the vets instead of going with "just the hot bat at the moment."

If the guys in the Pen could do there jobs, Willie wouldn't have so many calls that just didnt work. I can't blame Willie for the faulty Pen. Blame for that goes to Minaya. How do you let Chad Bradford go, knowing the Duanar sanchez was going into spring training hurt...

                          Neither guy is getting fired.

I'm not a Brewers fan. But, i watched alot of their games this year.

They have a nice young core of players.

                            Hart
                            Braun
                            Fielder
Weeks (if he can be consistent)
                            Gallardo
                            Parra
                            Hardy

Now, they need to find another starter to go with Sheets & Gallardo. (1 & 3)

Fixed that awful bullpen. Dump Jenkins & Mench and find some better OF's.

Watch out for them next year.

Jim Tracy - Pittsburgh Pirates. He's as good as gone IMO.
