They were up 10 games and despite the fact they were running away with the division they allowed Atlanta to catch up with a hot second half."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Most disappointing team?
It was 2 & a half months. I'm guessing over the same period, the Giants went 38-27. That's a 94 win season over 162 games. They didn't tank. They still played well. The Braves just got super hot. The same pace over 162 games would get them 122 wins.
I'm sorry. That's not a collapse.
It was a disappointment because they won 103 games and didn't make the playoffs. But, you're right, it wasn't a collapse. They did everything right. Not their fault the Braves played abnormally well over the second half."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Most disappointing team?
It still is, despite the move from NY. That's the problem w/the people who broadcast the national games. They are so into what's going on in the eastern time zone they are completely oblivious to anything west of St.Louis.
The Dodger/Giants rivalry is so much more heated, has so much more history, & been so much more competitive, any other matchup in baseball ain't even a close second.Originally posted by VP Richard M. Re: Most disappointing team?
The Mets collapse was so bad that it's permanently damaged my ability to get into another MLB season again (I'm a Mets fan).
Please, Fred Wilpon, dump the entire team, the GM, and the coach, and start over. This one will never get it done.Been gaming since the Atari 2600, and hells no I won't stop!!!Comment

Re: Most disappointing team?
A lot of reason for the Yanks/Red Sox rivalry being so big is because the two teams have faced off each other in a few big ALCS. The media has used previous history to make the rivalry seem bigger. I don't remember the rivalry getting as much talk in the late 90's.
If the Dodgers and Giants could finally make the playoffs together (or make the playoffs period) on a consistent basis then their rivalry will also get a lot of talk."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
