If a tree falls in a forest...does it make a sound?

Just thought we should put a thread together for great statistical performances that went unnoticed. If you participate in fantasy baseball, a lot of these guys are no brainers, but to the casual fan, maybe not.

    Hitters:

Brandon Phillips, Carlos Pena, Nick Markakis

    Pitchers:
Erik Bedard, Javier Vazquez, James Shields

Amen to Carlos Pena... trading for him saved my season... and he started off the season as a Free Agent in our 14 team 25 player AL-Only league.

After 2moro, I will hold the OSAL Pennant... thanks to this dude.

I think both BJ Upton and John Maine are worthy of honorable mentions. Both guys played a large role in the success of both of my fantasy teams.

Thank you for mentioning Nick the Stick and Bedard. People think that just because they play for the Orioles, they suck, which is completely ludicrous. Markakis is hitting .300 with 23 home runs and 112 RBI at the age of 23. He hasn't even hit his peak yet, and I'm very excited to see what he does in years to come. He has the chance to be one of the best Orioles hitters in history, and that's saying something considering the people before him (Cal, Murray, Brooks, Frank Robinson).

Bedard was on track for the Cy Young until he got hurt, and he still didn't get any respect. He was on track to win the strikeout crown by a mile, and probably would have ended up with 17-18 wins had he not went down. It was amazing how little props he got. The 15 K game got brushed to the side, and he got no recognition for it. This guy has stuff rivaling that of Johan Santana, but since he plays for the Orioles, everyone thinks he sucks. Whatever.

Hanley Ramirez has been the best offensive player in the NL this season and it really hasn't been close. #1 NL VORP by far, only behind A-Rod overall.

          Stats

          .334/.387/.565 (212 hits)
          29 HR
          48 2B
          51 STL
          125 R
          81 RBI

One homer away from joining just Barry Bonds and Eric Davis in the 30 HR/50 STL club. Two doubles from 50/50 with Biggio and Speaker. He's actually the only player to go 29/48/51, but 30/50/50 just sounds better. Looking at the homers and steals his season compares best to Bonds in 1990 (when he won MVP), except Hanley is batting more than 30 points higher with sixty more hits, while Bonds had more RBI (as a 3 hole hitter) and almost fifty more walks.

Thank God Beckett and Lowell have been amazing this season or I'd be sick right now.

He's getting more attention now that he's carrying the Rockies, but Matt Holliday still isn't well known around the country. He's having a very sick offensive season after an extremely nice 2006.

                .340/.405/.608
                36 HR
                135 RBI
                118 runs
                11 SB

I've drafted him for my fantasy teams the past two years (5th or 6th round in 2006, 3rd round in 2007) and he has not disappointed at all.

I have 1st pick in both the AL and NL leagues we are running next year and I'm taking A-Rod and Matt Holliday... so he shouldn't go unnoticed again, but you know he will being in Colorado and all.

Me being a homer here but the two bright spots for the Jays and I dunno if they were good fantasy bargain or not but here goes

                    2B Aaron Hill

                    BA/SLG/OBP

                    .291/333/459

                    2B/HR/RBI

                    47/17/78

                    Alex Rios

                    BA/SLG/OBP

                    .296/354/.495

                    2B/HR/RBI

                    43/24/85

These stats could change slightly by the end of the day but they're still pretty nice for a team that hasn't really hit for much this year.

I'll be the ******* who says it, Pena has to be on something. Couldn't even get a job in the majors last year, this year he's second in the AL in homers.

it sucks it's come to this, but I've felt the same way as well. Pena was always a prospect for his power but after multiple seasons of flailing around in the batter's box, he suddenly figures it out?

Phillips was already mentioned, so I'm gonna go with Reggie Willits, Angels OF. .293 with a .391 OBP, 74 runs, 27 SB. He's like a new Kenny Lofton.
