I think taking out Atkins earlier was a really dumb move. You don't take out one of your best hitters in close elimination games for a marginal speed advantage, ever. Especially if it's not the 8th or 9th inning and you aren't down by 1 or so.
Also the Rockies hitters had absolutely horrible approaches in extra innings. Just dreadful. None of them seemed to realize that you can win the game by going the other way with those Padre pitchers who were living on that outside fastball.
Chalk it up to inexperience I guess. In the playoffs every pitcher lives on that outside fastball because they know these hitters are trying to pull everything and be the hero. Experienced hitters know this and just take it the other way. Rockies don't deserve to win this game.Comment
