Congrats Buc Fans. A glimmer of hope is on the horizon. I've always liked the Pirates, I hope they do well. I think its better for baseball if they are good.

I'm disappointed. I think this season could've been better for the Pirates if Adam LaRoche didn't get off to such a poor start and that Jason Bay wasn't dealing with a lingering injury (from what I heard). I think the talent is coming around but they still need a few pieces here and there to put together a competitive ballclub. It's just that their minor leagues haven't seem to come through for the most part, with bust after bust for a while. I really think their pitching could become solid in the next coming years with Snell and Gorzelanny. They just need other pitchers around them that won't stink up the joint (easier said then done).

I saw a lot of Tracy when he managed the Dodgers and was never impressed with him. He's too laid back, never ever comes out to argue a call or try to fire up his team. Maybe that wasn't necessary on a veteran team like the Dodgers but it is very important on a young team like the Pirates. Tracy probably should have been fired in spring 2006 when he said that he changed Zach Duke's mechanics. Guy goes 8-2 with an ERA under 2.00 as a rookie and you change his mechanics and he goes 13-23 since... smart move.

        Good riddance Jim.

Dang Huntington fired everyone today! Like what the kid is doing... I expect the Pirates to be much improved... very quickly.

            Per rotoworld.com
New GM Neal Huntington also announced that senior director of player development Brian Graham, senior director of scouting Ed Creech and director of baseball operations Jon Mercurio were also relieved of their duties. "Since my appointment as general manager I have worked diligently to gather information about the inner-workings of the organization," Huntington said in a statement. "After a systematic evaluation of that information, I have come to the difficult conclusion that to transform the culture and to chart the course for future success, these changes needed to be made." We really couldn't agree more. Time will tell if Huntington is truly the right man for the Pirates, but he's off to a fine start.

Ed Creech had to go. He's the scouting director and his drafts have been terrible. I had read that Graham was a good talent evaluator, but Huntington got rid of him too. I don't know anything about the third guy.

Check out this article about Tracy and it will explain a few things as to why he was fired. Basically that he had 0 leadership ability, took credit when things went well and blamed the players when they went bad.
