Re: Mitchell's report to reveal many names

I just wish we could move on. Players did steroids. A lot of players did steroids. We know that. But honestly I don't see how it helps if we know how. To my knowledge, steroids weren't even technically illegal until I think 2001. And they didn't start testing until 2005. And whether it is healthy or not, if steroids aren't banned (and if you say they're banned, but don't test for them, that's not good enough) then it isn't illegal. A lot of these players who are going to get ousted are off the juice. So I ask what is the point of ousting them? Honestly, as far as records and stats go, if a hitter is on steroids (when they weren't "illegal") why should that matter - a good number of the pitchers he was facing were on roids too. And we don't know for sure how long this has been going on. Doping has existed since the late 19th century. People have used aphetamines, caffiene (which in large quantities is very dangerous), alcohol, cocaine, styrchnine, and obviously steroids. We don't know if greats such as Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Lou Gherig, Jimmie Foxx, or Willie Mays used aphetamines or methamphetamines (okay judging by his weight we can assume the Babe wasn't, but what about other performance-enhancers?).

And honestly I think this will hurt the fans more than anyone else. What if we find out Derek Jeter used roids for a time. I don't think we will, but theoretically what if he did and Mitchell found out? You don't think that would devastate Yankee fans? They would turn on him, but they would feel betratyed. Well when this list comes out, Jeter's name might not be on it but a lot of people's favorite player will be. And I for one hope that my favorite players are not. Because honestly, that would suck. Especially if they are still with the team. That would taint all the positive things that the TEAM has done, not just the players.

One last thing, I also believe that if we are going to start asterixing stats or flat taking records away we should be taking team accomplishments from this era away as well. That means Marlins fans - you're still looking for World Championship #1. Yankees fans? You're still at 23, not 26. Us Braves fans? Well if we are using 1995-2005 as the steroid era, then the Braves won a whopping 3 straight division titles, with 0 WS titles. And Red Sox fans? You're still cursed.

If any other Padre/former-Padre, I'd have to think Ryan Klesko and Phil Nevin go before Brian Giles, heck, maybe even Bubba Trammell before those three. Perhaps Marcus was on it as well. We'll see.
Could've swore I remember hearing Marcus admitting he took them with the Braves...I know for a fact that Javy Lopez admitted to taking them. I'll try to find the article.

I'm really pretty sure that neither one of them have admitted to using steroids. But I could be wrong.

Logic? It may not be an issue with the fans now but if it keeps getting shoved down their throats there can always be a negative reaction. That's why I'm saying no good can come from this.

mitchell just loves his name popping up on espn everyday.
btw, there is no way anyone finds any evidence to commit Bonds. it just won't every happen.
not saying he did use or not but Bond's will go laughing at Mitchell flailing in futility to his grave.
truthfully, i don't care the least.
I had no opinion on Bonds b4, but this whole thing just made me and some ppl root for him more.

Re: Mitchell's report to reveal many names

I thought the McCarthy named well over 100 state employees and only one of them turned out to be true and as it turns out was not even a state employee. I could be wrong it has been over a semester.

Now on topic to the steriod thing, I have decided that I really dont care whay players did just make sure it will not happen again MLB. Worry about the future. The real problem for me is what are you going to do with all the players who won MVPs or ROYs. Are you going to clear the books? Just doesnt make any sense unless MLB already has a plan of attack for when the names come out. And judging from prior events they do not.

This would be an interesting list if these names were to appear on there:

                  - A. Rodriguez
                  - Pujols
                  - D. Ortiz
                  - Clemens
                  - Thome
                  - M. Ramirez
                  - Guerrero
                  - Hafner
                  - Berkman
                  - M. Cabrera
                  - Beltre
                  - Green
                  - A. Jones
                  - Edmonds
                  - L. Gonzalez
                  - Klesko
                  - Tejada

And I hope to God that Griffey isn't on this list.

I didn't say I wanted that. I just said it would be an interesting list if those players were on there, and I just hope to God that Griffey isn't on the list.

But hell, to be honest... whatever better clears Bonds' name from everybody's minds, I'll take.

I wouldnt suprise me to see those names on the list. Especially Pujols who did the mag thing ala Bonds and Marion Jones when they got in phenominal shape. I did not read the article in Muscle and Fitness so I dont know if Pujols was promoting any supplement or not.

I'll cry my heart out if Delgado is tainted with this. Call me silly but I still have heroes in sports and Carlos has always been an outstanding guy. He still goes to charity functions in Toronto during the offseason and he's always been very classy. I remember when he was first called up to the Jays and everyone was calling him the next Babe Ruth because just about everything he hit was a HR. (eventually he got called down)

here's my opinion on the thing... Baseball is at an all time high in attendance and the ratings are going up.... lets just let the past be the past, and tighten the drug rules now...

I hate that baseball is going to be hurt by this.

Yea, McCarthy was investigating whether or not Communist Party members were employed by the government. Meanwhile the House Un-American Activities Committee was out to get folks in the movie industry for being sympathizers by blacklisting them. The 50s were the banner decade for witch-hunting and abuse of power. Big surprise that the 60s were characterized by distrust of government.
