Ratings for the LCS, especially the NLCS this year

So no one cares about a team that's winning, what, 20 of their last 21 games? I know ratings mean little, but the lowest before this year's NLCS was 4.9. It's a 2.2 for the Rockies/D-Backs Game 2. Pathetic.

sad, but u knew it was going to happen.
if it's not a team from NY,Boston, Chicago, or LA, i'm not surprised.
u know the B Selig pee'ed in his pants in horror when the Yanks & Cubs got their butts kicked in the opening round.

Not surprised at all. Two teams on the west coast means lower ratings.

You can just tell in general from the lack of posting going on in the NLCS thread that while everyone loves the Rockies story, no one is actually taking the time to watch the game.

Game 2 being on at 2-3 AM Eastern time probably didn't help much. I like watching the Rockies, but I wouldn't stay up that late to see it. That isn't "prime time."

The real reason nobody's watching the NLCS is that we're all scared to death of being assaulted by another "Frank TV" promo.

Dash: [muttering] Which is another way of saying no one is.

You'd think that the Rockies would get people viewing for the good story aspect.

Or some genius putting the games on TBS. With high def, I don't want to watch playoff games in any sport in standard definition.

I also can't imagine a lot of cable companies are rushing to add TBS HD.

This happens every year though. Baseball attendence is going up, but ratings down. It's happening with the NBA as well, if I'm not mistaken.

                      Mine did!

I do blame the TBS thing, a lot of people probably had no clue they were even on TBS.

While you're mostly correct, TV ratings were actually up this year for MLB... that is, they were up for every game besides Fox game of the week which were down... but ESPN had like a 20% increase in viewership this year... or so I heard.

Oddly enough, mine added it a week or so after I asked about it. Gotta love that customer service. From the other TBS HD thread, it looks like a lot of people around here have it.

Overall I'm sure TBS is part of the problem. I just don't think many people realized that the games were on TBS. I also think the later games cause a problem for the east coast folks. Personally I can't stay up that late to watch the entire game and then get up for work the next day. I'll usually watch until 11:30 and then shut it off.

I hope it happens because I could really care less about pleasing fans from bigger markets. This is what sports is all about.

Btw the TBS HD comment was ????, they have a great picture, great announcers and great coverage of the games. I'm glad it's part of Directv.

This surprises you? You think anyone outside their areas who isn't a big fan of baseball in general is interested in Arizona or Colorado? Ratings will be high when teams from big markets play and ratings will be low when teams from small markets play. That's just how it is.

I can't believe the games being on TBS has helped either. What an awful decision to put them on there (and not in HD unless you have Comcast - wtf). It also can't help that baseball on television is brutally boring and slow* for most people and when you have an announcing crew as bad as theirs have been this post-season you're not exactly going to draw people in.

                              * Arguably the biggest problem facing the game today is pace of play.
