I cannot pitch at all on this game!

I play on All-Star (default sliders except for fouls turned up 2 clicks. I am currently 1-11 in my Pirate season.

My best pitching performance has been with Kip Wells (I still gave up 4 runs!!!)

If I try to paint the corners, the CPU takes them for balls...if I groove pitches, he RAKES!

I need some tips!!! It is frustrating because I am really good at Madden & NCAA, but I am struggling here!

the key to pitching well in hh is pitching like pitchers do in real life.

i'm not expert, but i'd say that the majority of good pitchers in the majors have success by making hitters swing at unhittable (or hard to hit) pitches.

throw some strikes (aim them though - don't groove 'em) to get ahead in the count. when you are ahead in the count, waste some pitches. you can get some strikeouts. throw sinkers in the dirt, sliders away, high heat (heh), etc.

don't be afraid to walk a couple of guys. if your pitcher is hot and not getting hit, throw mostly strikes. likewise, if he has good stuff, no need to be afraid of hitters. if you have randy johnson in there, you should be fine blowing hitters away and occasionally throwing some balls to keep the hitters honest.

also, i'm not sure, but i don't think the pirates have the greatest pitching staff. if i recall, their pitching is decent (it's their hitting that makes them subpar), but not great.

    hope that helps a little.

I will try to help a little bit, I played 2 games last night, the first one I lost 8-1, the second one I lost 1-0 in 12 innings. You really have to work on getting ahead in the count. Once you do, don't always throw strikes (I am not sure if you do this or not) make them chase fastballs low and away or sliders high and tight. Vary up your pitches a lot. Don't get into a pattern, I think the comp picks up on that (for example don't always start with a fastball in) I was doing that the first game and got rocked. Don't get frustrated either. I had Radke on the mound, who has great control, but he was just off his first game. I threw a 100 pitches in 6 innings with him. Next game Joe Mays was on top of things. This game is about as real as it gets, just keep working on it.

You beat me to the punch, but this is the way to do it and it works. Not all the time, but it works.

I will say it is much tougher to pitch on All-Star this year, i have gotten ripped pretty good with average to below average pitchers. Everyones advice is good, mixing up pitches is the key and trying to use the pitchers best pitches, but you might want to adjust the CPu hitting slider as well.

I got a question about pitching... On the controller, is there a button to press to throw a 'ball' and a different button to throw a 'strike'?

I always used this to my advantage. I'd push the 'ball' pitch button, and aim it in a location where the pitch would actually be a strike. It was pretty crazy, but you gotta learn your pitchers. But sometimes thats hard to do since their abilities change daily. I guess thats what makes this so life-like.
