It could be... Word has it that Cashman is pushing for Girardi, and the ownership would prefer Mattingly... I'd wait to hear from someone else, however... Buster Olney put it out there that the Yanks were gonna make an announcement last week, and the Yanks' beat reporter came on WFAN and was like, "nah, there ain't no announcement coming today".

I've also heard that Cashman likes Girardi and the Steinbrenner brother like Mattingly. I wonder who Buster Olney is talking to that he'd report this. it must be someone reliable?

He must listen to WFAN... Sweeny Murti, the FAN's Yankee beat reporter, was saying this as early as the middle of last week, that Girardi was Cashman's choice... Mad Dog Russo said Thursday or Friday that the longer this played out, the more steam Girardi's name was getting... I laugh a lot at a lot of this supposed ESPN "inside info"....

I'd certainly be happy w. Girardi over Donnie Baseball.

You echo my feelings. As a Blue Jays fan i'd be sad tho because Girardi has shown he's a damn fine manager and if he can get the most out of a young Marlins team then he can likely do similar with the Yanks.

I think the youth of the team is the big reason why Girardi is going to be picked instead of Mattingly. I don't like the idea of someone with no managerial experience taking over this team next year.

Yes, one whole year of experience!

In all seriousness, I don't think they can go wrong naming any of the 3 guys...They are all qualified and I would be happy with any of them, even though Mattingly is MY choice.

I think Girardi gets the whole experience card for one year of 78 wins with a young team. Tony Pena did better in his manager of the year campaign. Girardi was the bench coach and then won manager of the year; wasn't he prepared the same way as Mattingly is now?

One year is a lot better than zero, especially when you won MOY in that one season.
