Re: Mike Cameron gets 25 game ban
He just lost quite a bit of money. Nobody is going to pay him the money they were going to if he is going to miss the first month of the season, especially since it was for performance enhancing drugs. -

Performance enhancing drugs? The article says it was a stimulant and really that could be anything. He might have picked the wrong Nyquil for all we know.Comment

Re: Mike Cameron gets 25 game ban
I'm a big fan of Mike Cameron and I don't think he comes back here in San Diego. With Brian Giles as an uncertainty to be ready by opening day, the Padres can't afford two starting OF'ers being out early in the season. On top of that, the Padres have holes in LF, 2B, SP, and C to go along with CF if Mike was to leave.
I don't think it was performance enhancing, and props to Mike coming out and giving an explanation this morning. Even though he'd kill rallies, I don't blame him because of how dumb this organization is when it comes to putting together a lineup (Cameron should not be batting 3rd or 5th... or 2nd), he was valuable defensively except for the early miscues he had last season.
If he does come back, it'll probably be because the Padres have found no solution in CF and no one is interested in Mike Cameron. But then that pretty much seals the deal on a season that is full of deadends known as Padres 2008 Baseball.Comment

Re: Mike Cameron gets 25 game ban
Marcus isn't that young and he was terrible this year. Add to that that he has pretty much been getting worse every year since '03 and that gives you an idea as to why he was released.Comment

Re: Mike Cameron gets 25 game ban
Not only has Cameron lost some money with this he has also lost some interest by prospective teams. Not too many teams are going to want to sign a guy that they know is going to have to sit out the first month of the season because of a non-injury related issue.Comment

Re: Mike Cameron gets 25 game ban
I didn't mean steroids by performance-enhancing drugs. I think performance-enhancing drugs is an umbrella term for any illegal substance one can take that gives him a competetive edge - not necessarily steroids or HGH. I think there are many supplements that, while legal by US standards, are illegal by sports standards.Comment

well obviously it wasn't steroids or HGH cause it would have been a 50 game ban...
Like GBrushTWood said, it was probably something like greenies.http://flotn.blogspot.com

Re: Mike Cameron gets 25 game ban
There are better second basemens out there in the market, and ultimately the Padres do not want to be locked up with someone like Marcus since we do have a very good prospect at second base who may be ready in 2009.
I hope Brian Giles doesn't take it offensive. This team needs to win and Marcus Giles is no longer a starting caliber second basemen. Brian is also on the downside of his career, but has been one of the more productive Padres despite being suppressed by Petco and despite being one of the oldest players on the team.Comment
