    Miguel Cabrera on the block

Sources tell ESPN's Peter Gammons that Miguel Cabrera will be available on the trade market this winter.

With the Yankees and Red Sox both in need of a third baseman and the Dodgers, Angels, Phillies and Giants all willing to consider upgrades, the Marlins may figure this is their best chance for getting maximum value for Cabrera, who is two years away from free agency. The problem is that, with his weight up, Cabrera's defense has gone from mediocre to truly bad, and he'd make more sense as a first baseman right now. Both the Yankees and Red Sox have possibilities there as well, but they might not be willing to surrender as much talent to fill a hole that is easier plugged.
    I'll take him here.

I'd like the Marlins to keep him but it won't hurt my feelings to see him go, I don't see the Yankees getting him without phil hughes, which isnt going to happen and I don't see the Sox getting him without ellsbury.....and again not gonna happen. I think if he goes anywhere Its a place like Anaheim.

I bet they needed a forklift to put him on the block.

Got a feeling he'll end up in the OF eventually or possibly DH'ing depending on which team he ends up with. Guys a stud and should only get better, so its too bad they need to trade him.

This makes sense if the Marlins art trying to sway teams like the Angels and Dodgers from pursuing Arod and and making some of their blue chip players available which they covet very much.

This also adds to the rumors that they may even attempt to lure Arod to south Florida if they create an opening at 3B

Which is what I'm praying for. I don't know what Miguel was up to, but god he got huge huge in a short time. I wonder if he started hanging out with Rick Majeurs at all you can eat buffet bars. Damn he got fat.

Of course the Marlins will probably ask for way way to much. I would love Cabrera on the Red Sox but it would probably mean giving up Ellsbury and Buchholz. Since Theo loves his prospects so much I doubt he'll be on the Red Sox which is a good thing.

Wouldnt mind having Cabrera's bat in the Yankees lineup...but like you said they will probably ask for too much such as Hughes and Kennedy. But you never know, his weight might lower his value and you know with the money that the Yanks are saving from signing Arod, they can send some money to Florida and someone not as highly touted as Hughes or Kennedy for him.

Wouldnt mind seeing him with the Dodgers as long as he can get in better condition and stay that way, as much as I like the signing of Torre, although I honestly would have prefered Girardi, he wont do squat if our offense keeps sputtering leading to arguments and verbal alercations amongst teammates.

I would give up Cain or Timmy, to get this guy. If I were the Giants.

I would assume the Red Sox would be better suited to try and re-sign Mike Lowell first. You don't have to give anything up for him and he's already proven to be a good member of the team. He would be a good fit for the Yanks although I'm not ready to give up Hughes for him.

Is he that lazy? Where did this weight gain come from?

fit in perfect with the Yanks... they got rid of a offensive force, defensive liability, clubhouse cancer, only to pursue.... the same thing.

With Manny's contract up soon, I've been saying for over a year now that Cabrera is probably one of the few, right-handed bats that could replace him.

But to an earlier point, do you give up Clay and Jacoby to get him when he's no longer a risk-free insert at third? Now if they'd take Coco and some of our top pitching prospects after that, I'd be very interested. They could use a center fielder too ...

Not a chance I'm giving up BOTH of them....hell, the only person I'd think about giving either of them up for is Johan Santana. Even then, I'd rather keep Jacoby
