Are any of those Phillie players any good? I've never even heard of them before. Doesn't seem like a great haul for Brad Lidge, but maybe his stock has bottomed out.

Bourn played quite a bit last season. He has some wheels if I remember right. I remember Geary pitching a bit too. Is he a sidearmer or submariner? Never heard of Costanzo.

Astros using Chad Qualls as their new closer, now?

wow. I know Lidge hasn't recovered from Albert putting his pitch into space, but this trade seems weak for a pitcher of his caliber.

Idiotic move by the Stros. The Phillies just stole him, the move really makes no sense because they already have Hunter Pence, They continue to make the mistake of depending on young players. Luke Scott and Jason Lane are the 2 i'm thinking of. A 98 mile per hour fastball, a great slider who has one of the best stuff in the majors is much better than a slap outfielder who has never got 400 ab's. I think a change of Scenary is what he needs. I feel bad for him though as the ball carries really bad in Philly. He better use his #1 pitch more his slider more. He seems to not want to throw it alot when it's the pitch to get him out of jams, and if he throws it out the corners/off the plate, and leaves in double, will not have to worry about the ballfield.

                  I don't understand this.

They deal Wheeler and then deal Lidge. Why would they make the first move if they were going to make the second? Seems silly.

Bourn has the potential to be a quality player. Outstanding speed. He was hobbled a bit late last season, but showed some promise early on.

I'll wait to judge this one. It looks like Rowand is going to walk, so I was hoping we'd hold on to Bourn. Lidge better work out...

Re: Brad Lidge to the Phillies...

There was a lot of conflict within the Phillies organization during last season about what to make of Bourn. Some people saw him as a top of the lineup starting OF, while others saw him merely as a 4th OF and utility speed guy off the bench. I personally tend more towards the latter, which leads me to approve of this trade.

Costanzo has the potential to be a power-hitting 3B, but his development hasn't tracked the way the Phils had hoped it would and he strikes out too much. Especially when you're planning on putting him in a lineup that already strikes out too much. Geary is standard middle relief fare - nothing special.

If Lidge's 2nd half last season was for real, this trade upgrades our bullpen while also upgrading our rotation because Myers will move back into a starting role. There's been a lot of thought for a while that all Lidge needed was a change of scenery to get himself straight, and if that's true I think this trade will look like a steal for the Phils down the road.

                        Good trade for the Phils

Not losing sleep over Costanzo. Sounds like another Pat The Bat.

Geary was alright, but you can do better.

As for Bourn, he's a nice player. I think the Phils know they have a better player coming up in Greg Golson.

I saw Bourn play for your mid-A team a few years ago. Dude hit an amazing inside the park HR that I'll never forget. He was rounding 2nd before the ball even got to the wall. He torched the Indians mid-A team that year, I think he hit 3 HR's, 2 of which were inside the park.

Once again Ed Wade proves he's a fool. However, I do think this would a good change of scenery for Lidge. I wouldn't be surprised if he found his groove back in Phils pinstripes.

Rowand would be foolish to walk. There is additional chemistry building here. Another quality reliever and this thing could fly! But hey, if it means moving Victorino to CF (with a proven arm), Dobbs can always be that 4th OF'er as well.
