The voters were sane this time around. Unanimous without a doubt.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

Yep, can't really argue against this choice.

Only he and Clemens have won the award without tossing a CG.

I think it was a good call. Though Webb had a great year too.

And yet some Yankee fans in the other thread said they wouldn't trade Hughes for Peavy.

He's awesome...probably one of my favorite non-Red Sox players.

I know he's young and all but i'd like to see Peavy actually win a playoff game.

                Other then that he's great.

Most likely will never happen, unless he gets traded.

                      Congratulations Jake.

                        .
What was the rationale behind that?

Scary thing is Peavy is just coming in to his prime and now has 2 strikeout titles, two ERA titles and a Cy Young.

They don't want a guy who has been lit up in two playoff games and couldn't pitch lights out in a one-game playoff in a place that's hell for pitchers.

Or... they'd rather wait until he becomes a free agent so they can sign him instead of trading away one of their highly touted young pitchers because the Padres are cheap-*** tightwads and would rather be a minor league team developing young players only to lose them to teams that appreciate a talent that's entering his prime.

Either way, Hughes hasn't proven he can hold Peavy's jock.

But they are right, two playoff games, including one he pitched with broken ribs is a great sign he can't pitch in the postseason. .

BTW, before they got him, what was Roger Clemens post season legacy?
