Who does this team have for the 4th and 5th spot in the rotation, Davis and some other unknown?
Well he will be facing easier lineups in the NL.
Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.

They do, they're just not willing to give it up. They're running into the same problem when it comes to making a trade for Erik Bedard. They have a ton of talent that's equal to or greater than what any other team has...

      Homer Bailey
      Johnny Cueto
      Jay Bruce
      Joey Votto
      Edwin Encarnacion
      Josh Hamilton
      Drew Stubbs

All of those guys have a ton of value, and if they would be willing to put a decent package together, they could easily get someone on the level of Bedard, Haren, or Santana.

I wonder why the D-Backs traded Valverde to Houston...

I heard it was to free up $$ for the Haren deal, but there has to be some other reason perhaps??

Yeah...I dunno. Does kinda make sense though. The D-Backs starting rotation depth sucked, but with Webb, Haren, Davis, Owings and whoever it's much better. I think Valverde's more easily replaceable.

The D'back management believed that Valverde's year was a fluke and didn't want to bet money on it.

I thought so as well. According to Baseball America's rankings, the D-backs gave up half of their top 10 minor league players. I guess they've chosen to sacrifice the future for the here and now. It beats what the Pirates are doing though....which is.....neither.

It's basically one of those trades where you'll look back in 10 years and either go "Man, the DBacks were so smart getting Haren" or "Man, why'd they give all that up for Haren?" Kinda like the Tigers back in the late 80's, dealing John Smoltz for Doyle Alexander during a playoff push.

Baseball's even wackier because prospects are a lot more hit or miss than other sports.

A little late on my part, good move by the D-Backs, although I expect them to slip somewhat because of all the 1-run wins they had.

I'm looking forward to the Peavy/Webb, Young/Haren pitching matchups this upcoming season.
