Sad stuff, although I don't know what is worse, the story, or one of the comments below it.

Not good, but then again, I don't have much compassion for anyone who kills someone while drunk driving.

I don't understand why celebrities drink and drive. Can't they afford limos, or at least a cab? I guess it's because they are stupid.

i make 40,000 a year and i can afford to not drink and drive. I am sure they can too. I don't feel sorry for him. he deserves what ever jail sentence comes to him.

What a piece of ****! These deaths due to drunken driving are so avoidable. I honestly don't get it.

I feel sorry that it happened, and for the victims.

I don't feel sorry for him.

                    Really stupid.

There isn't much of an excuse but it seems to me that a lot of these really big celebrities don't really want outsiders to know what they're doing at any given time. Rich and famous works for some and not for others like anything I guess. Until you've been stripped of your privacy I guess it's hard to say what you'd do but most people just want to pish-posh that viewpoint because rich and famous people have more or something. Anyway, it should be interesting to see how tanked Leyritz was for this. NYJETS pretty much nailed it on this one. Bad for the victim, whatever for Leyritz if what has been said is true.

Re: Ex-Yank Jim Leyritz in trouble

This reminds me of former NHL'er Rob Ramage who basically had the same charge leveled at him. He was driving home drunk with a current NHL'er. The guy was so drunk that he didn't even know what was going on and ran out of the crime scene as soon as he got out of the car.

Anyways, I don't think he has had his sentence yet (he was found guilty after a 17 month investigation/trial) The sad thing is the other guys' family is begging for leniency. I doubt the people in this situation will do that though. Leyritz may very well see some serious jail time.

Quite frankly, I have no sympathy for him. There's such a thing as calling a cab or having a friend take you home.

Leyritz was told Veitch had died and he was asked to submit to a blood test, police said.

"After he refused, Leyritz was informed that blood would be taken above his refusal," the police statement said.

                          Hmmmm, way to go Jim.

I'm glad people are getting tougher on drunk drivers. I work late night @ the hospital. I've probably stuck more drunks this year for the cops than I have for my entire 16+yr career. It's a hassle & the work doesn't always come @ a convienient time. But I'm glad to see these turkeys get the hammer thrown down on them. To me, vehiclar homicide under the influence should be treated just like a drunken shooting. Little excuse for it. You get into the car sober. You know you're going to down a few. You should have taken a cab or gotten someone else to drive you to the bar. Careless & reckless before you got drunk.

He used to frequent a bar called Macgreggors here in San Diego.. The Guy would drink after a game till the bar closed.. Sometimes taking the party back to his house... I saw this and I wasnt suprised, that guy defined alcoholic..
