    Gameplay question

The biggest thing right now keeping me from buying the game is that, at the core, I didn't like the gameplay from last year. I thought the game got boring after a few games. Does this year's version play essentially the same as last year? I know some people liked last year, but I didn't care for it.

How long does it take to play the full 9 innings? with being patient at the plate and stuff? 40-60 mins

I play on fast mode, and unless it's a scoring fest, the games don't last any longer than i would expect them to. And i'm not finding the game boring at all. I didn't play last years game to compare, but the commentary is pretty good (they often go off on some interesting tangent), there is umpire sounds, the crowd reacts to what's going on, and it plays a realistic game of baseball. I think all those things combiined makes for a pretty exciting game. I would say though if you really don't like the core mechanics of the gameplay, even if you thought this year's version wasn't as boring, you probably still won't like the game.

Let me try this. Here are a few of the things I didn't like about last year's game. Let me know how they compare in this year:

Pitchers became fatigued way too quickly
Outfielders were making too many plays (especially the over the shoulder catches)
Same over the shoulder catches for the infielders (esp SS/2B)
Crazy pitcher warm-ups (some pitchers never became warm, even if they hadn't pitched the day before)

I am not finding this to be the case at all. I've pitched at least one complete game, and could have done more but i wanted to give my bullpen some work. A lot of it will depend on how many batters you're getting out vs. the number of hits you give up.

I have seen a few of these. None too outrageous. I think it's just a the way the graphics handle a situation where the guy reaches the ball, but doesn't have time to turn around.

Haven't fully figured this one out. Sometimes they seem ready to go (green), and others they are the yellow color, which i'm guessing is fatigued.

I'll try to address these best I can:
1.Pitcher fatigue is fine this year, IMO. MUCH improved over last year.

2.Outfielders do not make nearly as many plays as least year. In addition, hit variety is much greater. These were 2 BIG gripes I had against last year's game, so I do not take this lightly.

3.Still a few too many over-the-shoulder catches for my tatses, but toned down a bit from last year.

4.Warming up pitchers appears to still be goofy as last year.

I have yet to play HH2004 (my favorite BB game last year was HH, with 2nd place going to WSB and ASB2003 not even on the charts), but so far ASB2004 plays a pretty darn good game of baseball. I would definitely recommend you at least give it a rental.
