I can't give these guys the benefit of a doubt. We've been burned too much already.

And Clemens has already been caught in a lie. On his youtube video he says this guy never injected him with anything. On 60 Minutes he says the guy injected him with B-12 and lidocaine.

Yes, caught that. He also fell all over himself with the lie detector question. Did he, or didn't he say "yes". I would have jumped on that one.

Having had lie detector tests done on me, pre-employment screening, I know how they are administered. There are questions given ahead of time, no tricks, no surprizes. He would know exactly what the question is. Pretty simple, "Mr. Clemens, did you ever take steroids?"
Can't get any simpler than that.

Clemens didn't do himself any favors on 60 Minutes last night. Seemed like "it just didn't happen" was all he could muster for his defense. Now that he's suing McNamee for defamation he is really backing himself into a corner.

I honestly have no clue what all the uproar is about. Everyone profited from the steroid era with nary a peep from anyone. Owners made more money, players made more money, and the fans bought tickets in record numbers and followed all of the HR's being hit. Owners, fans, and players all turned a blind eye to it and now everyone wants to get on a sanctimonious pulpit and tear down all those that excelled.

The witch hunt is BS. Stop sending my tax dollars on this McCarthy BS

            @ ZB9

Did YOU call it a 'witch hunt' when Giambi, Sosa, McGuire, Schilling, Palmiero, etc...were called to the Congressional carpet a few years ago?

Did you call it a 'witch hunt' when Sheff, Giambi and Bonds went to court to testify?

If you did, then you're consistent, and that's fair

If you didn't, than why complain now?

fyi, yea that was BS also, and yes i did say as much

chalk it up to as steroid era and move the hell on. There is a cloud over the entire era.

Bonds, Sheff, and Giambi were called to court to testify as witnesses in the Balco investigation.

That is different. It was a criminal investigation. That was not a witch hunt. None of those players were called before congress.

however, the feds blatently leaking the testimony from those court proceedings was absolute BS and helped fuel this "witch hunt" that MLB and congress are having.

you're consistent, so as I said, that's a fair position you're taking. And yes, the 'mighty three' were called in for the Balco mess.....

Re: Clemens and Pettitte called to testify to Congress

hearing has been postponed a month

                  http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/10/sp...ts&oref=slogin

the hearing’s postponement was announced Wednesday, McNamee’s lawyers said they were starting to ask Congress to seek an order compelling him to testify, in effect, giving him immunity from prosecution for his testimony. The orders, commonly known as immunity orders, require a committee vote, a Department of Justice review and a ruling by the chief judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, Ausbrook said.

“We have to be sure Brian is not prosecuted for what he testifies about,” Emery said. “To cross our t’s and dot our i’s, we have to make sure we get the same deal from Congress.”

Hardin, Clemens’s lawyer, said, “I smile at the delicious irony of a man who chides us for not telling the truth but is asking for more immunity.”

Clemens said Monday that he would testify before the panel without immunity. Pettitte, who has admitted he used H.G.H., and Knoblauch have not yet responded publicly. It is quite possible that one or the other, or both, will be asked by the panel to help determine who is telling the truth — McNamee or Clemens.

Re: Clemens and Pettitte called to testify to Congress

another interesting excerpt from the NYtimes article:

Rusty Hardin, Clemens’s lawyer, did not object to the delay, but said Clemens would like to testify publicly under oath as soon as possible. “Our concern is making sure Roger is seen under oath in a public hearing,” Hardin said in a telephone interview. “That is what we want to see. Everything else will have to be worked out.”

Hardin said he did not want McNamee to hear the taped interview with his investigators before he gives his deposition to Congress. Hardin had previously cited a small part of that interview, in which McNamee is quoted as saying he was bullied by federal investigators into linking Clemens with steroids and human growth hormone.

McNamee’s lawyers have not disputed the notion that McNamee cited such pressure at one point in the interview with Hardin’s investigators, but maintain that it was an exaggeration and that McNamee was otherwise completely consistent with what he had told Mitchell.
