Three more year for this jerk

Selig has been re-uped for 3 more years as the commish. So he's not going anywhere until 2012. Hopefully, the fans can endure and baseball won't be defunct by that time.

Who exactly decides if Selig resigns or not? MLB, the owners, himself?

People kill on the guy, but he's done a lot of great things for baseball. Interleague play and the wildcard are two of the greatest improvements in baseball history.

I know the owners cast a vote on who will become the new commish if the existing one were to step down or retire. I don't know if there is a way you can "impeach" the commissioner though.

I agree he takes a lot of heat, but every year baseball revenues have increased and this is despite having to deal with the whole steroid issue.

Wha? Wait, I thought Selig announced at this past ASG that he was stepping down at the end of next year?

Great, 3 more years of this boob ruining a great game.

And then of course you have....

1994: MLB labor strike, World Series cancelled for the first time since 1904.

2001: Contraction hearings on the Twins, Athletics, Devil Rays and Expos, eventually led to him being charged with racketeering and defrauding the Expos minority leaders.

2002: Ends the All-Star game in a tie, responds to criticism by instigating ******** World Series home field advantage rule.

2005: Made a fool in front of Congress for his lax drug testing rules and remained complicit while several of the players he used to repopularize the game following the 94 strike are thrown under the bus.

Selig's a pinhead. The wild card is nice, but the cons far outweigh the pros when it comes to his legacy.

Great post Sherik....yeah he has done some nice things during his tenure, but I always get the feeling that Bud is looking out for himself, and his Buddy's. I never have had the feeling that he is looking out for the best of the game, players and fans. Good Lord, dont get me started on Donald Fehr either......

Interleague play and the wildcard are improvements BUT there has been major disasters under his watch and most of them he could have stopped or avoided:

                    - The baseball strike of 1994: The cancellation of the World Series resulted in this mess. It took fans a couple of years to get over it. Part of this mess was also the doing of Donald "Duck" Fehr. But as the old saying goes, "It takes two to tango".

                    - Steriods: As soon as he frist heard about steroids in baseball back in the 90's he should have immediately tried to put a stop to it. Now that records have been broken within the 'Steroid Era', the records have been tainted. Along with the game's integrity.

-Deciding the World Series home field advantage by the winner of the all-star game: This is one thing that is totally his fault and one of the dummest ideas in sports history. Let's say for example, if Team-A won 116 games and they go to the WS and they play Team-B who got into the playoffs as a Wild Card with 85 wins. And let's also add to the senario that Team-A beat Team-B in interleague play 6 straight times because of the natural interlague rivalry. BUT when they get to the WS Team-B has home field advantage because Team-A's league lost a meanless all-star game. How fair is that? HOGWASH! This reason alone makes him terrible.

He has ruined the game's enjoyment(94 WS cancellation), integrity('Roids Era) and innovation(all-star game determining the WS home field) while on his watch and he did nothing to prevent any of it.

I agree that the All-Star game deciding home field is really lame, but it doesn't seem to matter that much. There were some bad things more than a decade ago and he did mess up some, but right now I think the game is better overall with the WC and interleague. Attendance supports that.

The thing people forget is that Bud works for the Owners not the fans. He hasn't been the best commish for the fans but he's helped the owners make boatloads of money which is why they're keeping him around.

True. That was pretty evident from the moment he reinstated Steinbrenner.

Not all the owners have enjoyed the wealth of Selig's reign. You can ask the Twins and Expos/Nationals owners about that.
