Ryan Howards Arbitration...
Well, looks like the Phils and Howards camp have a 3mil difference. He's looking for 10mil, the Phils countered with 7mil. I seriously don't see the arbiter giving Howard his money as this is his first year. I hope they find a middle ground before this gets ugly.Tags: None -
Re: Ryan Howards Arbitration...
Phillies would have been much better off paying him the difference than wasting twice that much on a washed up closer. -
Re: Ryan Howards Arbitration...
Washed up? Possible. But with Myers moving back to the rotation and Flash not being "flash" anymore, we have no choice. Maybe all Lidge needed was a change of scenery.Comment

I am getting worried howard will not be a phillie if they don't give him the money, if you think Howard is one of the leaders give him the *** **** money he is well worth it ..Comment

Re: Ryan Howards Arbitration...
You can stop worrying, he isn't eligible for FA until after the 2011 season...at which time he will be 32 years old. So we have at least 4 more years where the Phils control him....Personally I'd like to see the Phils get a long term deal done with him that would lock him up until he is 34 or 35....but if I'm Ryan Howard, knowing I am going to have one chance at FA since my career started so late, do I really want to give up the chance to go on the open market at age 32? I'm guessing a 7 year, $100 million deal would get it done, but I'm not so sure Ryan and his agent aren't asking for more, if they think he could get an average of $15 million in arbitration over the next 4 years and hit for big money in FA....that would be a hell of a risk to take for them though, as injury or a dip in power could really cost him.Comment

Re: Ryan Howards Arbitration...
agreed...What is it w/ the Phillies...Attendance is waaaayyy up...There is a boat load of money being made. Howard is a very very important peice of the puzzle. I hope they can agree on a long term deal like they did w/ Utley. Then we would have the best 2B and the best 1B in baseball...How you like that Dk......j/k (about Howard)...Utley though...whose better right now?
That isn't to say Howard isn't important though. I think he is easily the second best 1B in baseball behind Pujols, unless Prince Fielder can consistently repeat his production from 07.Comment

I swear, the owners of this team make me sick. Most of them don't give a crap if this team is good or bad.Comment

Re: Ryan Howards Arbitration...
The owners of the Phillies do suck...It's a group ownership w/ one appointed majority owner/president. If you ask me a team w/ that kind of ownership is never gonna go very far. Look at the Yankees and Red Sox... 1 owner. The Patriots...1 owner. I wish that was the case w/ the Phillies because they will never pay anybody.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment
