    Busch Stadium

For all Cardinal fans or anyone who has been to the New Busch Stadium, what problems or issues have surfaced with the facility since it was constructed. I know it is a beautiful stadium but I am doing a case study on its construction, and need to know if there have been any problems or complaints. I've looked online for something but have not been able to find anything regarding any negative issues. Help is appreciated.

Bama, I have been there probably 10 times to watch the Cubs play there and I had no problems the 2nd year. The first year they were still putting on the finishing touches, but if recall there were really no labor or constructional issues. The stadium is a great place and amenities and surroundings all mesh together very well. I don't know if I helped very much, I just dont remember anything negative in the newspaper,tv or radio being reported while I lived there.

Thanks. I know there probably isn't much negative if any, but anything helps.

I recall a lot of the media people had a big problem with the press box the first season, that was corrected for the second season, I don't remember off the top of my head what the issue was though I'll try to find something about it.

Found one that mentions it, they changed it in order to get the nod for the All Star Game:

MLB cites open air press box. The Baseball Writers' Association of America moved Wednesday to request that Major League Baseball withhold a...

Not sure if thats the type of problem you're looking for but off the top of my head it was the only one that came to mind.

I went to about 5 games the first season and things were pretty good they were just finishing things up, I went to about 20 last year and had no problems.

Well, I know they didn't put AC in the press box. Thats kinda weird, especially given the humidity in St. Louis in the summer.

edit: wow, if I had just taken the time to read the above post, LOL

as far as i know, there have not been any construction issues per se, but there is a construction related issue, that relates specifically to the financing of the new stadium, and that is the proposed ballpark village. to get people behind this new stadium, the owners and other civic leaders included a ballpark village facility in the construction package. it was to be a mini mall type area where people could come and eat, drink, shop, habng out and even had a observation area where pedestrians on the outside could watch the game while entertaining at one of the establishements adjacent to the stadium. in theory it would be a great addition to the downtown area, which at present lags behind other cities' downtown areas in offering entertainment and nightlife destinations. that is slowly changing, but again, in an effort to boost interest in and drum up support for the stadium, the ownership and city leaders promised to build a ballpark village which would be completed shortly after the stadium. the general public bought into the idea and as a result got behind cardinals ownership and provided some funding from the public (local and i think, state) sector. this funding made it possible for the owners to build the park, which they said they would not have been able to do without public funding. now the only thing we have as yet, is a big unsightly area where the old stadium used to be. most political and civic leaders insist that the village will still be built, but they have yet to even break ground or give more info on their finalized plans for the village. most people don't really believe the village will ever get built, but when asked the owners still reply rather unconvincingly that they plan to construct the village. that remains to be seen. i don't know if this kind of thing would fit into the parameters of your case study, but it is related to the construction of the new stadium, though not having to do with actual construction.

When the Ballpark Village is finished, this will definitely be one of the best (if not the best) looking stadium to date.

Until Citifield in Queens gets completed of course.

LOL, they haven't even broken ground on a ballpark village. all you see when you go to a game is a big 2 city block area with broken concrete, rubble from the stadium construction, and dirt. it is so shabby to look at, especially when the stadium is so majestic and nostalgic. it just detracts from the whole experience. they use that vacant area to park cars on, charging about 20 - 30 bucks. so in reality fans who park there are paying twice - once for parking and once in supporting tax incentives and public subsidy.

The first season there were complaints about safety railings in the line of sight from some seats. They were later changed to be less visible. And the foul poles were too large when first constructed and they got new ones. I'm not kidding either. They were too fat.
