    Re: Manage Only Mode

I've been able to put up 8 runs against the Cubs playing with the White Soxs.

I don't use the generate pitch count option so it's all about your pitch count. if you got a 2-0, 3-0 or 3-1 count on your batter then swing with more power if your a power hitter. But if your behind in the count then shorten your swing and hit for contact.

        Re: Manage Only Mode

I bought this game specifically for manage only when I saw the reports that the gameplay was good. I was very disappointed though after the first day of playing that way. I thought it really lacked in realism.

But, since I had the game anyway, I tried to play instead of just managing(I am new to console games and don't have very nimble hands due to circulation problems). I absolutely love it now.
It's much more realistic and you still get to manage all the strategy. I play on auto field and easy hitting on all-star mode to limit the wear on my hands and it is working out well. My 1st two regular season games with the Cubs franchise has seen back to back 4-3 games against the Mets. Nip and tuck all the way.
I am having problems with the base running though. But atleast for me, playing in this restricted way and managing strategy as I go is alot more fun and realistic than manage only.

            Re: Manage Only Mode

Is anyone still playing in manage only mode? If so, I have a question..
Are the stats strikeouts to base on balls way out of whack in this mode?
Does using generated pitch count really help here?
Or are the generated pitch counts totally random and have nothing to do with the pitcher vs. batter?

Any other info or insights are greatly appreciated.

Hey Raagnar, To solve the base running, say your leadoff guy gets a single, pause the game, go into control player options and simply switch to cpu for your base runner! Just remember to switch it back at the end of the inning!
                Hope this helps ya Bro!!!!

                    Re: Manage Only Mode

I use the manage-only option with no generated count, but I sim about three of every four games to progress my franchise and still have a life, so my stats are more because of the simmed games than my managing. However, I would think both K's and walks would be higher if you were using the generated pitch count or if you didn't and told your guys to be patient. Since my team is expansion I often tell my best hitters to hack away at first pitches.

I see I had posted earlier that manage-only seemed to be a lost cause, but since then I have managed to win most of my games, and I think that's because the game, like real life, is streaky. I have managed to score 10 runs twice now but still seem to get shut down offensively at home. I don't know why that is?

I have finished an entire spring training seasion using the manage-only mode with generated pitch counts. I did not sim a single game and I really like my results. Through those games, my K and BB numbers are very realistic. I'm playing with Reds and tried to use get as many innings out of everyone of my pitchers.
Offensively, my HR leader has 5 for the month and a total of 6 players have gone deep at least once.
I'm getting as many ABs in as possible for each player as well.
I never thought I would be the type to enjoy MO, but I find it keeps me busy enough with the decision-making aspect of the game that I think I may continue using it on into the regular season.
I know some gamers need to push those buttons though and that's perfectly understandable....but alas...I'm getting a little old.....

Nice to hear your results are realistic, but do you feel your pitchers last too long with the generated count?

And have you seen any homeruns to centerfield yet-- I've seen only shots down either line-- then again, The most power I've got is B-... so, yeah.

Actually, I can recall a few times I had to pull a pitcher VERY early. Jimmy Haynes was getting shelled hard in the third once and I can recall Danny Graves not making it to the 5th. They were throwing many pitches and thus the "energy bar" was depleting very quickly.

As far as CF HRs. I don't believe I have ever seen one hit to straight away center. Of course I'm playing in the Grapefruit League Stadium which I believe has a pretty reasonable CF distance. I've seen a few hit to left center and right center however.
