I'll never understand why some teams try to lowball their star players in arbitration. Just settle before the case and call it a day so you don't have to sit there and argue why you don't think he's worth $XComment

$10M for one year is still a bargain. If he was a free agent I would expect offers in the range of 6 yrs/100M.

Typically the team isn't arguing against the player, there is usually one representive who handles all arbitration cases from the team sides.Comment

true. Usually can be made up at the back end of a career if they stick around long enough.
for some reason I always thought that Howard was being blocked by Thome and had languished in AAA for a long time. I follow the AL (O's fan), but do follow all the MLB. I was wrong.
