The term "Walk off" originates with Dennis Eckersley when he was with the A's and how he used to describe losing in the bottom of the 9th and the opposing team walking off the field after a loss and he started using it back in the early 90's. It took about 15 years for it to catch on nationally in many different variations, but in the Bay Area, it's been a known term that was wore out about 5 years ago.
