Re: XBox HH

If the other games aren't locking up, why is it so "obvious" that the Xbox is the problem? I tend to think it's sloppy code from 3dO... they don't have the best reputation for bug free games (not flaming; I like 3dO, but there's definitely a history with bugs and High Heat).

Wasn't there a game last year - NCAA Football 2003, I think - that would freeze up? I believe EA confirmed that there was a bad master copy that they used to produce the game, and that 1/4 of the DVD's were affected. Maybe this is the same kind of problem?

Just thinking out loud...

...one other thing... when all of the NCAA 2003 problems were going on, I read on various forums that if you eject the disc mid-game, among other things, you would mess up the "cache" file that the hard drive uses when loading up that specific game. The fix for NCAA 2003 was to clear out any files from the game on your hard drive and start over (which sucked for those that had been working on dynasties, although a transfer to a memory card was possible).

The things I read that gamers' were saying to do were:

1. Don't use the "eject" button to turn on your Xbox
2. Always exit to a main menu within the game before ejecting the disc
3. Never leave a game in the drive when you turn off the machine (it could screw things up the next time you turn on the Xbox)

Now I don't have any verification of those items, but I've had an Xbox since launch, I've always followed those guidelines, and I've never encountered a "freeze" problem.

Kevin I agree with all three of those things. The main one being...

2. Always exit to a main menu within the game before ejecting the disc

This is what cause my problem with NCAA 2003 and I know that for a fact because I tested it. I had to delete my NCAA files and it would go back to normal. Once I made sure I was at a main menu this has never happened since.

Thanks for the confirmation, Brent.

I remember those guidelines, because I had to give my 5-year-old SPECIFIC instructions when he wanted to fool around with "Daddy's" college football game!

I have pretty much only consistently done #3, but I will definitely start doing #1 & #2. This is the first I have heard either of these.

Thanks!
